How far should I go? · 12:36pm February 15th
So this a question to those reading my rewrite of my story Returning Home, how far should I go with world building? And to be clear I'm specifically referring to the politics involved with Equestria.
The Reason I ask is because I can go full George Lucas Star Wars here and write a full chapter dedicated to coving the political debates where Celestia has to argue with the Equestrian Noble Houses and Senate for their approval to go to war and show the inner workings of how my version of Equestria works with the different noble factions and how they respond to all this and everything or should I just keep it simple?
The reason I'm asking is because I did have plans to cover this stuff in the original story but I felt It would be boring so I scrapped it. On top of all that it would also extend the time it would take to release certain chapter including the up coming one so while I can do it, doing so would take at least a month to write out and then maybe another month to look it over and make sure I have everything done properly. so were looking at 2 months at most before the next chapter.
Please leave your thoughts in the comments below and all opinions are welcome, if they weren't I'd not be asking for them.
It's good so far.
I'll say continue as you were Add a bit more backstory to certain characters this time around also. like the rulers of Other kingdoms Also More about discord's past With the aspects of Elements of harmony
More contents on.
Who the Aspects Of elements before they died. That's all I would say about your story it's really good so far

A lot of what you want to know is meant to be revealed in the sequel story. Now some of the Rulers will be changing mostly because at the time I originally wrote the story we didn't have a lot of information on the kingdoms outside of Equestria and by the end of the show we got a lot more info.
The Griffon ruler has got his story flushed out, the Dragon King was changed to Dragon Lord Torch because it made more sense, the Minotaur leader has just as little of a backstory as before but honestly we don't see a lot of the minotaur people so there's not much I can do there.
Discord will be getting a bit more of a reveal to his backstory this go around, last time I dropped some hints but this time I'm going to reveal more stuff that was cut but then again all the Elements will be getting a lot more time in the spotlight so it's not like he's getting special treatment. A good example of this will be Discord and Fluttershy's marriage being flushed out with me even covering their wedding.
(I say this because it's not really a spoiler, it's talked about in the original and they even have a kid)
So yeah, expect some more story to be coming but I still need an answer to my original question because I can go super deep with the politics but I don't know if people will be interested in reading it.
I would go into the politics side of it a little bit like How some people go too far into politics in stories Or like some other people they don't do enough you should be middle ground Not too much politics I would also explain The concept Celestia going bad I would also.
Explain a little bit more about The two different types of angelic or demonic sides
Dive in but not the deep end. These facts matter to the understanding of the world coming together to avenge twilight. To know who the desenters were and what their arguments were is good, reading the entire argument is not. Seeing the build to the twist (assuming it's the same as the original) is good, flash backs are good, entire chapters dedicated to a singular flashback in time may be too much.
Whatever you choose, it's your story, write it how you want it to be written.
I can only give general advice. If, in your opinion, disclosing the details of the policy will benefit the story in at least one aspect, then feel free to add as many as necessary. There are many examples of successful stories in world literature where political details did not interfere with perception (for example, Game of Thrones).
I wouldn't mind bits of the stories focusing on the political side of things, I think it would make the story interesting and focus on what's going on behind the scenes, I mean Twilight died, everyone across the entire planet is going to be talking about that because, duh, a princess and a hero who saved Equestria and the Crystal Empire let alone the world multiple times has died.
But it's your story so it's your choice, personally I don't care what you choose, on one side there will be more detailing what's going on, on the other side it increases the time chapters are released, however I think some can agree with me when I say that people prefer quality over quantity, such as chapters go more in depth with the story rather than chapters being released faster.
To be honest, I'm just here to see the overpowered Twilight Sparkle.
in my view it largely depends on what sort of story your writeing and how long you plan to linger with this setting, if this is a one off and you plan no further sequals and are leaning into the action
forget the world building focus on the set peices
if on the other hoof you are looking to have this be the start of a long running series of stories that you wish to have webs of intreauge and drama, establishing the rules and history behind it all is a good idea
me i lean a bit more towords the later as im a lore junky but thats just me...
