As folks know, I'm a fan of Doctor Who. For a while, I could say that I had seen every existing episode of the program available to the public. Then the Chibnall era happened, and between that and my various headaches and hassles over the last couple years, I've been thoroughly disinclined towards getting properly caught up.
Then the sixtieth anniversary specials came along. The return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner? That's good, his era has a lot going for it. David Tennant back? Brilliant, he's a fantastic actor and his Doctor is rightfully regarded as a popular incarnation. Catherine Tate back? Also awesome, as she and Tennant had fantastic chemistry. So there I was with motivation.
Now, I tried to get caught up. I figured, hey, it's only nine episodes, I can manage that. But stuff kept on popping up, and I only managed the first two...and Chibnall's stuff is just a slog to get through. So despite my desire to get caught up, I went ahead and watched the first of the new specials.
And damn it all, I loved it. The spark was back in Doctor Who, the joy, the fun that wasn't there under Chibnall's watch. David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor isn't the same as his Tenth Doctor, and we don't need him to be the same. Both specials that have aired so far have been fun, and while I've had some small issues with both, I am overall very pleased with both. I cheered out loud at several points, particularly at the end of the most recent one when we saw Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott for the final time. I can't wait for Saturday and the final special. I'm avoiding spoilers with all the effort I can. I look forward to Ncuti Gatwa's debut, and have faith that we'll have an exciting ride.
Though now, the real question is, can I justify watching the final seven episodes of Jodie Whitaker's tenure? I feel obligated to at this point, to be honest, but I don't feel eager. Kinda like Secret Invasion in the MCU. I've heard too much about both, experienced too much related to both. And I'm not sure that's a good thing.
Well, I'm glad that you found stuff to enjoy with Dr. Who again, Echo.
Though honestly, if you don't feel like you'd enjoy the last episodes of Whitaker's tenure, I'd say that's all that needs to be said then. No sense in putting yourself through the trouble if your only feeling on the matter is just obligation. This stuff is meant to be FUN, after all.

Yes, it is. Trouble is that I'm a completionist, and why own the Blu-Ray if I'm not gonna watch it?
If you have not done so already, I strongly recommend that you watch Linkara's reviews of some Doctor Who content, including two specials from the Classic era and even a crossover comic between the Eleventh Doctor and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I have a good feeling that you are really going to enjoy these videos, since he is also a huge fan of Doctor Who and has even taken some inspiration from it when writing the storyline segments of his review show.
I don't like that it's exclusively streaming.
Some of us still use regular TV, dammit!

I've seen a few of his reviews, including a couple of his Doctor Who themed ones. Kinda entertaining. Makes me miss the stuff Nash used to do related to Doctor Who.

Be patient. They'll still do home media releases. The BBC is gonna milk this cash cow for all its worth.

I meant more, "we would be watching this on BBC America if not for this crap" instead of wishing the home releases were already out.

Oh. Yeah, I get that.
