Farewell, wherever you fare, till your eyries receive you at the journey's end! · 11:14pm Dec 20th, 2012
Evening, all. This will be my last blog post for two years. I know I said that a few days ago in my last post, but this time I really mean it. I leave in half an hour and won't have another chance to write.
As many of you are aware, I am going away for two years to volunteer through my church. Unfortunately, I will be unable to write during this time on account of my laptop staying behind. I might be able to write out some stories by hand while I am away, but will still not be able to post them until my return.
I would like to say that this has been an enjoyable few weeks. From when I first posted Spike Microwaves a Marshmallow I have felt the great love and appreciation that the brony community is (or should be) famous for. From the generous editors to the diligent readers, you have all been a great help in my short time here, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I would be lying if I said that I did not love writing. I am not, and have never been, good at writing, but I still enjoy seeing my thoughts materialize in front of me. The only thing better is when those first few notifications start to come in after posting a story. As my editor, GorisTheDeathclaw, said, "Getting like a billion notifications is simultaneously the best and worst feeling ever." And it's true. Not knowing if I should expect to run and hide or bask in adoration is a wonderful, dreadful feeling, and I love each and every one of you for it. Your comments motivate me to try harder and write new stories.
In the comment war of my most recent story, I learned something wonderful and I would like to share it with you. I wrote it in the format of a letter to Princess Celestia. Please excuse the chicken scratch. I have included a typed copy below the image.
Dear Princess Celestia,
This week I learned an important lesson in humility. Everyone is proud of their ideas and it can be hard to take criticism without getting defensive. While it is important to listen to your friends' encouragement, it can be more important to the strangers trying to set you straight. They are only trying to help and should not be threatened for doing so.
Your sadistic subject,
Jaelommiss
For the very last time, thank you.
Farewell, wherever you fare,
Jaelommiss
See you on the other side!
Laters.
