For those of you who read my works, you probably notice that I still use two spaces after a period or any other punctuation mark that is at the end of a sentence. I have had some people bring that up to me and I even got into a heated debate with my sister over it and she is only 1½ years younger than me. The reason I do this is because for my whole life, I was taught that it was two. That first started in my typing class back in 1992 and even once I started writing things such as papers on Word Perfect, my teachers and then professors in college still taught that two spaces is what is proper.
Now while I know that one space is proper and considered correct in this day and age, I'm not changing. With me, it will always be two. Part of it is likely because changing a habit I've had for over 30 years is not easy to break. The second one is that everypony seems to think it makes sense and remember, "What fun is there in making sense?"

I learned to type on a typewriter. Due to this fact, later typewriters - and early computer keyboards - are difficult for me to type on.
In regards to your double spacing, that's perfectly normal to me. Do carry on.

Text to speech is something that I would not use. It would feel too much like talking to myself. I don't even like those automated things that want you to say the option instead of pressing a certain number for an specific option.

I fully back your 2 spaces after a sentence. Then I took typing in 1974 and that is how it was and should ever be. For a term paper those spaces add up to a few more pages to make the final product a bit thicker. I think they were more worried about that than content.

Yeah the extra spaces do help there. For me it is a matter of only one space making it look like the sentences are blending together. On here it may not look much different on the finished product but when you're typing, it is clearly visible. Some people say that is a habit that people need to break but with me, not happening.
