Prepare your insulin for cuteness overload, and be ready for what I have confirmed is Fimfiction's FIRST actual Hamtaro and MLP:FiM crossover fanfic.
Kicking off this story was the only way I could see to celebrate the fifth anniversary of when I sat down to check out "My Little Pony: When Friendship is Magic" which hooked me on it's first season alone.
This was because of how similar the show seemed to an anime that basically was my childhood. I grew up on the "Hamtaro; Little Hamsters, Big Adventures" anime when it was still airing outside of japan. I've since then checked out the games "Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite", "Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak", "Hamtaro: Rainbow Rescue", and "Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Games"; the latter two I used an emulator to play. This is because they were never released in the US; only in Europe, Australia, and Japan. And this makes no sense at all. While both "Rainbow Rescue" and "Ham-Ham Games" feature characters that only showed up in the anime when it started airing exclusively in Japan, the fact that these games were released outside of Japan DESPITE the new characters being Japan exclusives otherwise, makes no sense to me why these games were NOT released state side. I honestly cannot find a single reason why these games were not allowed to hit the US market. The only reason I can see is anti-consumerism, plain and simple.
Despite my gripes with two Hamtaro Games never reaching the states, Hamtaro practically defined me, and made me create my OC self and the world around him which I was finally finishing up with around Super Mario Galaxy 2's announcement. Of course, I've later on gone back and expanded upon that said lore, but still, the point remains that the Hamtaro Anime made me the person I am today.
So you could say, I might not have even latched onto MLP:FiM so hard if it hadn't had been for Hamtaro. That orange and white, headstrong, caring, charismatic, and fuzzy little hamster practically lit up my face every time I saw an episode pop up. And has been a center piece of who I've become ever since.
Heck, you could say that if it wasn't for Hamtaro, I wouldn't even be here on Fimfiction, let alone part of the greater MLP fandom if it wasn't for Hamtaro. The main reason I became a part of this community is like I said, because that first season of MLP:FiM reminded me SO much of the Hamtaro Anime.
TL;DR, you all wouldn't even be SEEING this blog post; let alone be enjoying my various fanfics; if it wasn't for Hamtaro being such a focus of my childhood. I grew up on Hamtaro. I loved Hamtaro. And I'm sad that the anime isn't even airing anymore.
But I can't let Hamtaro just die. It's time to resurrect the hamster and his crew for one big passion project.
It's time I started sharing the love. The love of one, very particular anime.
