‘Purpose’ Will Deal With The Fall of Opaline’s Immediate Aftermath · 7:17am Sep 2nd, 2023

Hello, everypony! This is Hawk Nightwing coming to you with a new update on the last two entries of the Misty Saga. I bet y’all have missed these more simple story update posts that have been becoming more and more infrequent since I’ve taken up activism and dedicated my YouTube channel to setting an example for the rest of the fandom. Well, don’t worry because here I am with another one! In spite of my grand ambitions, I am just a humble author on this site first and foremost and I think as our Triple Feature Event draws near, I feel like making more story-oriented posts to keep you guys in the loop. In this case, I have finally reached a decision regarding the upcoming penultimate installment Purpose! I know that story has gotten barely any promotion compared to its epic follow-up and some of you may have forgotten that it’s even coming out. Well don’t worry, it still is and it will be coming out sooner than you might think. I’m currently almost done with it and it turns out that it’ll be much more than just a prequel to Worthless. What does that mean exactly? I’ve decided to go in a slightly more interesting direction and make it both a prequel and a sequel!!

That’s right. We’re going full on The Godfather Part II and making it half prequel, half sequel. How will this possible? In terms of the sequel aspect, I’ve decided to have the story take place directly after the events of The Fall of Opaline. A while back, LordFlareon left a comment on, I think it was either the story or the blog, and expressed that they were bummed that the immediate aftermath of that absolutely bleak ending wouldn’t be seen. In hindsight, I do understand why they would feel that way as there was a lot to unpack. The ponies are divided again, Zipp got seriously injured in the crowd fight, Sunny has turned to the dark side now, and Misty now feels an intense level of regret. Well at the time, I was reluctant about exploring the immediate aftermath simply because of how dark it was. I was attempting to slightly course correct my vision after The Fall of Opaline was criticized for being too dark. But I realized later that I could either run from this bold new direction, or embrace it in the overall narrative and I feel like we should have at least see what happened at least a week after shit hit the fan. So I’ve decided to embrace the latter, as well as trust my instincts, and stick to the gritty tone as that’s what makes this series special. We will be seeing how the remaining Mane 5 are dealing with the recent events in the present-day sections and it’s all going to come to a head in the final scene, which will cement just how dire things have become. The scene will involve Hitch and while I haven’t written it yet, let’s just say…he’s not taking losing Sunny very well and the ending is going to be downright scary. If you thought that The Fall of Opaline’s ending was terrifying, then you ain’t seen nothing yet. All I’m going to say is that he has seen so much at this point that his mind is on the brink of outright mentally snapping. He’s haunted by losing Sunny and potentially Sparky forever and it’s eating away at him.

The entire point of seeing our heroes fall is so we can see them be built back up again. Take apart, build back up. That was Zack Snyder’s idea for the Justice League sequels and I want to kind of emulate that here. The final chapters of the Misty Saga will be taking heavy inspiration from the storyboard plans for JL 2 and 3. With this context, I’ve recently re-evaluated my work on The Fall of Opaline and realized that it’s not as bad as I initially made it out to be. Yeah, it’s a structureless mess with two narrators, but to be honest, the story never stood a chance with the way I wanted to tell it. If I just told the whole thing from third-person, that would’ve been majorly beneficial in the long run. But I do still stand by the narrative direction I went and with readers coming to terms with the dark tone, I have too. Yeah, Sunny was featured way too heavily for a story arc meant to be focused on Misty, but I realize now that was always going to be the case no matter what I did because the intention was to get her out of the story through whatever Opaline-related means necessary considering that Can I Go, Mom? said that Sunny was kidnapped. Now we know that is still true from a certain point of view and I think I overreacted during the creation of the story by freaking out over the fact that Misty wasn’t featured as heavily. My plan was always to have Sunny feature heavily, so her turn to darkness hit the hardest it possibly could and judging by what I currently have written for Redeemed, the narrative benefitted greatly from Sunny turning evil. I think that if I stuck to my very early plans, in which this plotline didn’t yet exist, then we would’ve gotten a less impactful version of the Saga simply due to how well the plotline works in the grand scheme of the overall story.

To this extent, not exploring the events that happened afterwards would be criminal and the way it’s going to work is that we’ll have the main backstory be told by Misty to another character as a way of positioning her back in the narrative spotlight. We’ll see how certain members of the Mane 5 are dealing with what has transpired and how these events have affected them on an emotional and even psychological level. So Purpose is going to be both a sequel and a prequel and I think that’s ultimately the best form it can take. I am so excited for you all to be able to read it and I hope it gets you all even more hyped for Redeemed as the finale. I’m working extremely hard to make this as satisfying of an ending as possible and I hope that I can craft an epic story worthy of the year-long investment y’all have put into it. As always, you guys will be the judge and I can’t wait to read your feedback.

What else? So, BFDIA is apparently back! Yeah, didn’t know that I’m a fan of object shows? Well I am and I think I’ve made that somewhat clear throughout some of my responses to certain threads and stuff. I’ve watched all of BFDI and Inanimate Insanity. Well, everything except BFDIA as I kinda skipped that for some reason. After the initial cancellation of BFDIA a long time ago, I thought it’d never come back considering Jacknjellify had since moved on to BFB and even TPOT! Well, apparently we’re getting the continuation after all this time as BFDIA 6 has finally released after all the anticipation! Time to catch up on the rest of the season!

With that being said, I will see you all very soon. Bye!

I'm not someone who normally reads such dark content. But with the way The Fall of Opaline ended, I just couldn't help but wonder what exactly happened afterwards. So it does give me some relief to see that explored further here.

I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks! Yeah, it was actually your original comment that inspired me to embrace the rest of my vision wholeheartedly with no more course correction. Obviously the first time I changed tactics and introduced the evil Sunny plotline, it resulted in a better narrative in the long run, but now that I’ve finally gotten the story where I wanted it to go, I see fit to go all the way with it. We’ve just seen a massive bombshell be dropped and I realized a couple weeks back that things needed to get worse before they got better. So we’re having this in between story to bridge The Fall of Opaline and Redeemed.

I’m certainly looking forward to seeing what you have to say about this penultimate installment.

MYM Chapter 5 is almost here.
Hopefully something just as epic as this (but maybe not TOO much) happens in the show itself.

Yeah, I know. It’ll be out, I promise. The truth is I’m juggling way too many things at once right now. Once all the Chapter 5 reviews are up and the A New Generation defense video is out, I’ll be able to get Purpose out quickly. But I can’t leave the channel hanging anymore as the month long hiatus turned out to be disastrous for my view count and I still haven’t recovered from that.
