Finally getting close to a full chapter draft on Eros... · 8:57pm Jul 7th, 2023
Make that two chapters, since the total length of what I’ve written is 22.5k words, and likely to be closer to 25k when all is said and done. Yep, this chapter just kept growing and growing. In the end, that’s way too big for a single clop chapter, and I have a natural breakpoint in the middle. So it is officially getting broken up, but at least that means you’ll be getting two new chapters in fairly short order.
The first chapter will be almost all clop with no movie, while the second will be back to the movie with only occasional clop woven in. But that’s not to say you won’t get some interesting worldbuilding and character development (or at least, I hope readers will find it to be) in both. But just in case everything thinks its all wine and roses (or in this case, cider and popcorn), there will be a truly dangerous moment in here.
As for what that is, the first new chapter will involve a confrontation between Gilda and Marco when each manages to severely step over the line and piss off the other. If there’s a point where it was possible the ibex plot to cause violence between humans and griffons would work, it’s here as both take great offense at something the other says and/or does. In Marco’s case, you’ll find out something interesting about his family along the way, and don’t worry—it resolves itself through means I won’t give away here, except to say that they end up gaining new respect for each other.
The second new chapter resumes the movie proper, and aside from the usual military history and tactics discussions—how many clopfics do you see those in, folks? —you’ll learn of a surprising parallel between Earth and Tellus that I mentioned in the last blog post, along with hearing about certain other illicit aphrodisiac substances that exist on Tellus and their potential effects. And yes, that I’m mentioning them here means you’ll likely see them incorporated into the story later.
I know it’s been a long wait folks, but this has honestly been very hard to write for its length and complicated content. I definitely didn’t think it would get this long, but that’s the story of my writing life, really. I just have to finish off the ending to the first chapter at this point, and it’ll be off to prereaders. The second chapter needs even less work—I have to write the opening since it’s now separate—and will follow just a couple days behind. So at the very least, you’re going to get two chapters in the space of a week, and probably less.
Prereaders, stand by. You’ll be getting the first chapter no later than tomorrow, and the second just a day or two after that. First chapter will go live once prereads are in, and I’ve given it the usual two editing passes. Thanks for your patience, folks. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.
Man I wish I could preread this so bad. I have never been THIS emotionally invested in a fic. It's such an incredible read.
