Ilvermorny? · 4:12pm Jul 2nd, 2023
I got bored last night and got a bit curious. "What's the American Equivalent of Hogwarts in the world of Harry Potter?" So I quickly looked it up and Got my answer: Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It's in Mount Greylock of Massachusetts, and was founded in 1627. Just like Hogwarts, there are 4 different houses a student can be assigned to. (The house name, what they mainly represent, and the type of student they favor)
-Thunderbird: The Soul and favors adventurers
-Wampus: The Body and favors warriors
-Horned Serpent: The Mind and favors scholars
-Pukwudgie: The Heart and favors healers.
And of course, it's interesting to learn how it differs from Hogwarts.
-Because they don't have the Sorting hat, when new students join, they stand in the middle of a circular room with 4 wooden statues, each being one of the creatures each house falls under. The statue that comes to life indicate where the student will be joining.
+The Thunderbird will flap it's wings
+The Wampus roars
+The horned serpent's crystal glows
+The Pukwudgie readies an arrow.
However, if 2 or more statues activate, then the student can choose what house they can join between the active ones. It's only a decade thing when all four activate.
-Instead of having colors associated with their house, all students wear the same color: Blue and Cranberry, with a golden ribbon wrapped around their waist
-Wands aren't purchased at any store, but distributed at school, and are kept during summer and winter holidays. But students can keep their wands when they reach the age of 17.
Now, the lore is pretty interesting, but I won't be able to type it all down here, so this guy made a video that explains how this school was made, and what happened to its various founders (one family, btw)
Really, I want a Hogwarts Legacy-like sequel (gameplay wise) where you're a first year student here, and go on your own adventure. New location, new characters, new secrets! All in the world of Harry Potter. But as for the timeline... A part of me wants to imagine today's times, if to see how schools may act with things like cellphones and videogames. Perhaps during the 50's and 60's, during the Civil Rights movements. Or maybe during the Civil War era.
This is really just an idea that I hope will come to life in the future. And hopefully, we can know more about the other schools in the future, get more of this world building instead of the Fantastic Beasts way of "Focus on Dumbledore with this random animal guy and his muggle partner in the background."
