Question of the Week #111 · 2:45am Jun 20th, 2023
Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week.
Last week I asked about writing a story involving a radio station (Question of the Week #110) and later I posted another blog sharing more of my ideas on the subject. Well, I plan to discuss this idea some more.
By the way, don't forget to check out the new Radio Station Group, I made.
Now, while the previous blogs will have some info, this will hopefully expand upon them.
The story would take place in Gen 5 (just thought it might be fun to try) in Maretime Bay at the radio station for 91.39 - The CHILL.
"Welcome to 91.39 the CHILL, let our music run down your spine..."
The station plays mixture of spooky and rock music.
We follow a few characters, which I shall include here. Now this is just a rough draft and will probably receive more info (and maybe changes) later, but I figured that I would share them and see.
Compressed Cue (the Splendid Sir Scorpio)
Gender: Male (Stallion)
Race: Earth Pony
Appearance: A light gray coat with a black mane with lime green highlights. His eyes are purple. On the left side of his face is a birthmark that is white and contorted. His cutie mark is of a vinyl record enveloped in purple flames.
Backstory: Cue lives in the town of Maretime Bay, working as a late night DJ at 91.39 The CHILL, where he takes on the radio personality of the Splendid Sir Scorpio or Scorpio for short. Due to his birthmark and the fact that he has a tendency to scowl when he is concentrating or thinking, most ponies tend to keep their distance. While most ponies are so keen on Cue, many of them love the radio personality of Scorpio, not knowing that they are one and the same.
Likes: music, cats, sleep.
Dislikes: snobby ponies, dogs (they scary), headaches, the absence of sound.Visiola
Gender: Female (Mare)
Race: Vampony (looks like earth pony)
Appearance: A tan coat, with a white short mane and tail. She has magenta eyes with crimson coloring at the center (which gradually spreads outwards when she's hungry). Her cutie mark consists of three eighth notes arranged in an upside down triangular manner, however when she's hungry, the black dot in the eighth notes shifts to red.
Backstory: Visiola is a vampony who works as Cue's co-host, though her history prior to working at the station is largely unknown. There is mention that she may have been turned into a vampony by artificial means (as opposed to being sired by a master vampire), however Visiola doesn't seem to want to elaborate on this.
Abilities: Enhanced Strength and Speed as well as enhanced visual, audio and olfactory senses.
Likes: Blood, garlic (even though the smell does hinder her vampiric senses of smell), bats
Dislikes: Fire, sheep (what are they staring at?), smoothies and ice cream (too cold for her fangs)Dahlia
Gender: Female (Mare)
Race: Earth Pony
Appearance:
Backstory: Like Cue, Dahlia lives in Maretime Bay. While it took her a bit to get used to unicorns and pegasi, she now feels reasonably comfortable around them.Secretly Dahlia likes Cue and while she tries to give him hints, Cue seems completely oblivious. Occasionally she will use her baking skills to make Cue a treat, which she gives to him on his way to work..
Likes: Growing flowers, dancing, singing, smoothies, baking, horror movies (in secret, pretends to not like them)
Dislikes: Hot sauce, brussel sprouts, romance novels
Dahlia is actually a background pony from the show.
Now in the story, while Cue and Visiola will be playing music, they will occasionally receive phone calls from their listeners mentioning cryptids they have come across or in some terrifying cases, are dealing with right at that moment.
So, I actually have two questions to ask:
- What do you think of Cue's radio persona? Should I change the name (suggestions are welcome)?
- What sort of cryptids, would you like to see showing up in the story?
Thank you all for coming and reading these blogs. I do appreciate your feedback.
Personality wise, I don't know. It depends how well you execute it.
Cryptids... well, I could suggest looking towards the east side of Equestria/America or the world. What kinds of cryptid does eastern America have? Fallout 76 seems like a good one to look into; Appalachia has the mothman for example.
Heck, try Mothra. This "queen of monsters" was suppose to be Godzilla's love interest for some reason.
But if you got nothing that you feel are interesting, having the regular ghosts are good. You could make them have little to no communication capability like Phasmophobia, or even friendly at all.
I think the new far in town is a changeling. Maybe a changeling princess.
Visiola is quite protective of her “flock” in Horseshoe Bay, even if they have no idea they are sustaining her. So when another predator comes to hunt, well, “this town ain’t big enough for the both of us.”
5734454 That is an interesting concept. I'm not too sure how it would work as I was thinking that Visiola would mostly stay within the radio station and drink from blood bags (and occasionally Compressed Cue).
