I'm aware it's been a long time since I was last active, but I still have plenty of stories in mind for The New Life of Princess Aita, the sequel to the The Lost Changeling series.

    Insomnia Advisory's Mid-quel

Insomnia Advisory was a new fic I found myself writing soon after finishing off the initial The Lost Changeling series. And at the snap of a finger, here I am writing a mid-quel inspired by A Test for Cozy. While it uses a similar premise of if an additional character faced their fear during the events of What Lies Beneath, this

Carve's Final Story is done, except...

There is a song. This is partially why this story took two months to complete. But the story is ready... the only thing I need to do is inject a link to the song in Act 3. Once the song is posted and included, I'll pass the story off to the mods here. This song actually turned out pretty well for taking so long to write. So, would you like to see the song as is? Vocal demo? Casted? Option

(Cozy Glow) Is a Backstory POSSIBLE? · 6:53am Jun 11th, 2023

Very much, yes, especially after making LOLO Fillydelphia.

I was able to pinpoint Cozy Glow's origins when I planned her debut in the The Lost Changeling series, and they took a few bits of consideration. Something I certainly agreed on with Applegeek was that she grew up in a rough environment, but, based on her behavior from Frenemies, also wasn't entirely unpleasant. Her temper appears to draw parallels to children let loose in wealthy communities, as they tend to acclimate to their fortune more willingly than adults. Combine that with her youth, and you get somebody with a spoiled attitude.

Surprisingly that not only takes out any small town in Equestria, but also easily eliminates Manehattan and Las Pegasus from possible origins for Cozy Glow, due to the real life counterparts also being equally expensive enough to make a decent living infeasible. That only really leaves us with three options right out the gate: Baltimare, Vanhoover and Fillydelphia. Why those three instead of also Canterlot? Canterlot is a unicorn only city while the other three are implied to be at least a bit more diverse.

I hit a bit of a snag at that point. None of these cities were shown in canon proper, so I had to read up on their comic depictions for any details. That's when I noticed that Fillydelphia had unicorns and dragons in it. Cozy Glow drained magic from Equestria so that she could be the most influential pony in the nation with the amount of friends she could make. This power is only tangible when it's exclusively figurative, which requires magic to be taken out of the picture. In the same two-parter she also comments to Smolder that none of the student body schemes like dragons and targets her with extra friendship homework. These not only supported Fillydelphia for Cozy Glow, but was the perfect starting point for two specific peers of hers from my interpretation of her original upbringing: Lily Trail and Smoky (Harsher in hindsight, I know). As for the school she originally went to, I simply went with Happy Foals Schoolhouse due to having Veggie Tales on my mind at that point (specifically the school Junior went to: Happy Tots Preschool), and this kind of detail really had no specific pointers, just that she moved to Ponyville to transfer schools.

After having figured out the where and who with Cozy Glow's attitude and actions, I'd now have to figure out what exactly happened, which I can mostly do using her skill set, and it is VAST. Cozy is shown to be a relatively skilled flyer for her age. She is also shown to excel in home and careers, specifically cooking (School Raze, Frenemies), sculpting (Beginning of the End), sewing (Frenemies), and drawing (Frenemies). She also appears to be reasonably capable at housekeeping (Marks for Effort) and organization (What Lies Beneath, School Raze). I'd say she got these skills from Happy Foals, specifically seeking them out at a young age in case she'd need them someday as a means to her ends, an additional benefit in that regard being the efficiency at picking up this knowledge.

Cozy Glow also seems to be a skilled liar, actress, and manipulator. A lot of this stems from her inherently being a child. Young, developing children pick up on a lot more than people give them credit for. They may notice light momentary emotional turmoil will benefit them in the long run by getting their caretaker's attention and fulfilling their needs, and could eventually exploit that for their own desires. I know all of this because of some of the earliest memories I can ever recall from over twenty years ago when I was a toddler myself. It will not end well when someone that young is exposed to the overwhelming fortune of Fillydelphia's developmental community.

All of Cozy Glow's appearances in both canon proper and the The Lost Changeling series never delve into her home life, even in Fillydelphia, so there's no reason to deny Jim Miller's "Who says she has parents?" comment at first, but both timelines never had her home life under any real consideration, so the comment could very well be disproven, especially considering her skill set.

So here's what I think happened.

Cozy Glow started out like any rich filly in Fillydelphia, not terribly far off something you could imagine for Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. As soon as her parents tried to improve their care for her, A.K.A. only giving her the necessary attention, she ended up needing to get creative and take some time to get ahead in school, learning quite a few advanced topics for her age, such as home and careers, that way she could enjoy all the perks of her family on her own. When Happy Foals noticed, the faculty met up with her parents to decide her fate.

Ultimately, Happy Foals began rewarding Cozy for her newly acquired skill set, which was something her parents did not want for her. It was quite apparent she was bearing the wrong attitude a filly her age should be exhibiting, now using her inherent nature as a child for her own gains. At this point, word likely got around that the School of Friendship has now been open to all creatures who could personally benefit from this education, and because of the setup with the School of Friendship in addition to her skill set, Cozy could potentially be set on the right path. So after a quick transfer, we are led to the second act of Marks for Effort.

What do you think? Does the backstory line up with canon proper? Was it properly backed up? Leave your thoughts below, and I hope you enjoyed.
