That was quite a race! · 11:24pm Jun 6th, 2023
I was sick with some sort of nasty vacation-acquired summer cold — still not quite well — so I didn't comment much Sunday or yesterday, but the Barcelona Formula 1 Grand Prix was a fun race. Verstappen (MAX MAX SUPER MAX) leapt out to an immediate lead and earned the third Grand Slam (pole position, lead every lap, fastest lap of the race, win) of his career. This was unsurprising, since he's the best driver in the sport today and the Red Bull is the best car.
The action in the back, however, was quite entertaining. Mercedes unfucked their car, apparently, and took second and third, and the other Red Bull came in fourth. Lots of good action in the back, with some excellent overtakes, especially considering that the track was modified their year, replacing the final slow-speed 90 degree / 90 degree chicane with a fast sweeping curve.
Overall, that was a good race to watch while nursing a virus and sipping hot coffee to steam the sinuses.
