Not in the sense you're thinking of!
My obsession vice completely normal amount of playing Elden Ring continues. I completed Journey 5 tonight without activating a single Great Rune (this game's version of buffs). Through this playthrough, I maxed out Endurance to 99.
So let's take that and put it to the ultimate 'blocking whore' test.
For Journey 6 (enemies gain a little bit more health and attack damage in each subsequent 'Journey', up to 7), I'm taking a fully upgraded Fingerprint Stone Shield and Antspur Rapier, which is the only class of weapon that allows for light attacks while actively maintaining a block.
Let's see how far I can get before dying and or summoning a Spirit.
Don't spears and any such weapon close to that classification also attack while blocking? I've used Mogh's spear and that same shield to fight Malenia and you can attack while blocking as well.

I'm not sure, but you probably just gave me an excuse to upgrade Mogh's Spear (I've got 2).
I figured this sort of blocking build would be absolutely useless against Malenia. Even if I manage my Stamina well, we'd be caught in perpetual battle for Phase 1, and then she'd likely get me during Phase 2. My only successful strategy for Malenia has been super-high DPS with dual Bloodfangs and a spirit summon and hope she doesn't use her best moves.
