I went to the sea... of thieves · 6:02am Feb 23rd, 2023
Recently something occurred in my life which caused my stress to go through the roof.
So I was talking to some of my buddies over Xbox/discord and one of them said something along the lines of: 'Hey why don't you play something different like Sea of thieves it's free to play'
To not have another panic attack I gave Sea of thieves a go and I must say this...
HOLY MOLY IS THIS A BLAST!
I've never heard really bad things about Sea of thieves besides something about the gold curse and toxic players which, to be honest, those kinds of people are EVERYWHERE, including here on fiction h311 some even have their own 'TV show' which is nothing more than a trash fire.
But back to the topic, I've had fun in games before and there has been the rare game I enjoy yet it was lacking in something which I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the risk of the game or the more forgiving nature of Sea of thieves or perhaps it's the thrill of beating a group of toxic players' Brig with your Saloon.
Or perhaps it reminds me of Sly Cooper: a band of thieves when you are in 'blood bath bay' with your very own pirate ship and all that jazz.
Whatever the case is I only started a few days ago and oh boy have they been interesting!
First off I haven't paid a single penny in the game, but the battle pass/plunder's pass is so easy to complete and I decided to spend most of my Microsoft points on a $10 US gift card to get it. Say what you wish but I love the whole raven/plague doctor theme and no I didn't get the halo costume, like seriously it looks nice would you rather get a ten-dollar outfit or a ten-dollar unlocked reward system that gives you three outfits, a second ship theme, and extra ancient coins for you to spend on other in-game items like a pet fox (Yes, I have once and she's adorable).
Sure there was the time I got sank for the first time by a thieving newbie player like myself who tried to steal my loot and when I caught him in the act he decided if he couldn't have it neither can I. Little did he know was the fact most of my loot was already sold and the reason he sunk me was that I had kegs in my ship, which I then learned to never put on your ship no matter how rare it could be (this will be important later trust me).
On my fourth day, I ran into this Galloon who didn't shoot at me I returned the favor by providing fire support against a mega shark, but then after that, they left me at the mercy of a reaper galleon. But surely the galleon was after their flag and spared me, heck they even let me have the Galleon's loot, don't know if they felt bad about me or something else.
-THIS IS THE BEST PART TRUST ME-
But on Tuesday of this week, I was with my friend over Xbox and decided to leave the party and try open crew on a galleon which resulted in what you would think. On the third try though... oh boy that old saying 'the third time is the charm' I got onto this crew who weren't screaming questions at me or becoming completely still and mute. Heck, we were actually doing pretty well, one of the crew was a fellow Warhammer nerd after which we decided to go towards the red skull in the sky since we were like: 'might as well'.
Once we made it their boy did the fun really start!
I lost count of how many skeleton waves there were but we fought all kinds of skeletons: normal, gold (surprisingly actually pretty strong from skeletons that are made of gold), seaweed (that run fast and heals in the water), and skeletons that are basically shadows. While we fought a skeleton Galleon rolled up to and one of my crew and I dealt with the skeleton ship while the others handled the next wave. Doing stuff I learned from previous PVP attacks was able to sink the Galleon with a couple of firebombs and well-placed shots. But that was before the halfway point while trying to get the loot THAT WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE OUTPOST me and my crewmate fought off a few sharks before returning to the fold.
We died so many times! But the skulls man! the skulls!
It was like Khorne himself was like: "I like these guys they have my blessing,"
We would need it because of the bosses... this dutchess chick was a nightmare and so was her boyfriend 'two-face' good lord it took us at least 30 minutes and two tridents to kill them. But we weren't done yet OH NO we had one more trial left.
The ashen skeleton lord who by the throne of skulls did look like a daemon, it took everything we had to take him down, bombs, the last keg we had, mag dumping rifle shots, and half our cannon ammo to break him down. When he fell oh boy the loot!
The loot! The LOOT!
(Think Khorne will be pleased? FYI this isn't close to what we had I couldn't put it all in one screenshot!)
Yet as we were 'loot training' back to the ship we were visited by another skeleton galleon! This time though we weren't taking any risk see we had decided to move the legendary kegs away to make sure we don't bring them with us because well... you know well placed one shot and all that work would be lost. So I had planned to bring them to the top of the outpost tower to shoot at them to give off this big explosion to end it all in a bang, but I decided to grab one of the kegs after we finished loading the ship and I went out into the water.
After waiting for the ship to pass by I climbed aboard and quickly ran down to the lower decks before lighting and placing it right in the galleon's belly sadly I was knocked out by a skeleton before I could escape and watch it go off. So when I returned back to the ship after visiting the ferryman I had missed the fireworks the galleon went down in burning blazing, but we weren't done we had to make it to dagger tooth outpost.
Luckily nothing happened besides the massive amount of coins and exp we all got! With the crew playing the song 1813 in the bar to celebrate.
On man what a blast... safe to say I'm glad to give that game a chance, although I think some of you might be thinking 'he's got an idea' and to that, I have to say: correct my brain just fires off ideas alright I haven't done anything yet. Mostly ghost weapons, pirates, revamp concept, waifu, and anti-hero/whateverjacksparrowis idea.
But if any of you pay sea of thieves and went to play I'm down when I have a free moment.
Love to join up with ya, but right now I have no net access. Once I get net back and update my Xbox I will PM you my gamertag.
I'm more of a nintendo guy.
