End of 2022 summary · 11:29am Dec 31st, 2022
So, 2022 was sbout 2 stories - "They're Everywhere" and "They're On Holiday".
I may or may not have said at some point that there's a particular style of writing I enjoy the most and that's basically Terry Prattchett's Discworld, which itself is a cycle of several writing styles and settings with a common thread. Most of the stories are a mix of fantasy, comedy, and a heap of satire about human nature. It's a mix which, in my opinion, no other writer managed to make or keep interesting for long. Of course, there are things I dislike about the style, specifically the long tangents in the middle of an engaging scene which are only barely related to what's happening and completely pull a reader out of it, but Prattchet wrote even those well by making them interesting on their own and related to the world at large (Something which Douglas Adams did in Hitchiker's Guide too but extremely poorly, especially after book 1).
I feel like TE hit the mark the most out of everything I've written so far (even though I still think that "Happiness Is What You Make of It" and "Dawn/Shine of the Silver Sun" are the best stories I've written overall), and the like/dislike/involvement/readership numbers support that to a degree. As for TOH, I don't know if it's the sequel curse or if I just went too far in the "just screwing around" direction, but it's hard not to see the drop as an utter failure. But hey, it was at least expected.
As for plan for the next year - finishing TOH is the first on the list.
Huh, that's one empty list. I guess I just spent most of this year waiting if G5 would bring some lore to build on which didn't happen.
Anyway, Happy New Year to anyone who reads this.
