I think your story has a good start. Are all the characters OC's? A good way to get the story rolling is to write all your ideas for the story and then worry about order later. You have excellent back story for Nomad. I find that writing the 'back-cover blip' helps me steer the story in the right direction. Any fun references can be listed for later use; you don't want to get hung up on those. I need a breath after that...
