The lowest actual user number is #12, a fellow named PY. (I forgot to check when he was last online.) Knighty has #1, of course, but Knighty's also the guy who developed the site and has like a week on PY.

I wanted to befriend user #6, because user #6, but user #6 does not exist. (I've got a couple other folks to befriend, though.) I suspect user numbers 2 through 11 were used by knighty in testing.

Edit 11/16/2012: At this point, you can search in your Read Later list simply by going to your read later list, clicking the pulldown-thing that says "Filters" (used to be "Search"), and putting your search in there. As long as you start from the Read Later, it'll search just the Read Later automatically.
