Dan Harmon's Story Circle is a streamlined version of the Monomyth (otherwise known as The Hero's Journey). It's the essential, underlying structure to every story, and it's something we (humans) construct naturally even without any conscious awareness of it. The more a story sticks to this structure, the greater the impact it will have on its audience. For a prime example, you need look no further than
So I've had a couple people recommend Pillars of Eternity to me, and this weekend I decided to buy it on steam and try it out. For those of you reading this who don't know what it is, it's a real-time party-based RPG much like Neverwinter Nights or Dragon Age: Origins. Both of those games (also NWN2 and DA2) are games that I have previously played and enjoyed. Pillars of Eternity was produced by Obsidian, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas (which I also love). So given a pedigree like that, I
So for a while now, I've been having flashes of ideas for scenes in a sequel to Sweet Nothings. I've started writing them down and figuring out how to fit them together. He's a little preview for anyone who's interested. The final product may or may not differ significantly from this, and it will be a long time before I publish anything (if I even take it that far), but I just felt like giving a little teaser.
After two weeks with no progress, I've decided that getting onto Equestria Daily is not what I want to do with Scootaloo Story. All I ever really wanted to do with this story was to just write a little bit every day for a month and let it speak for itself.
I know I could do better with it, but I already wrote one story that I spent two years on. I don't want to devote that much time and effort to this one, so I'm just going ahead with it as-is.
So I'm trying to get A Scootaloo Story accepted by Equestria Daily. I've got a lot of work to do, so there won't be a new chapter for a few weeks while I revise and rewrite what's already here.
Thank you to everyone who has taken an interest so far, and stay tuned for more!
So after a considerably less work than I expected, I've completed the first draft of my rewrite of Sweet Nothings.
I'll begin publishing it soon, after proofreading and all that is done. It's something I think I'll be very proud of when it's all finished.
In the meantime, I'm going to be taking down what I already have published. There's a google docs copy of it which I'm going to leave floating out there in the aether, but it will be removed from FimFic for a while.
The day is finally here. Today I published the final two chapters of Sweet Nothings.
It's been roughly two years since I started work on this story. It took several months before I started publishing, and work was slow up until the start of this year; sometimes I worried that I would never finish this story.
So chapter 9 is nearing completion, though it has slowed down significantly. I had wanted to keep up my current streak of publishing a chapter on the first weekend of each month, but this one might not make it this coming weekend. Perhaps the next one, though. A busy work schedule has had my mind on other things lately so I simply haven't felt inspired/motivated enough to keep writing. I'm getting going again, but it's been slow. There's still a chance I might have it for this weekend, but no
