[UPDATE] Chapter 10 is in "prereader" status · 11:13pm Jan 9th, 2022
Pretty much what it says on the tin.
Pretty much what it says on the tin.
It's done!
I've submitted it to my pre-reader, but Chapter 9 is complete so far as the story I want to tell. Parts feel rushed, and this will require a hell of an author's note at the beginning, but I made my deadline of getting it finished in time for a pre-read so the publishing can happen no later than Christmas Day. ('course, now it's in the hands of my pre-reader, and since I no longer live with them I can't pester them ceaselessly from just down the hall...)
It's a long one, that's for sure, but I'm almost to the climax of the chapter, which doubles as the climax of the story. I've got one more chapter, which for those familiar with Joseph Campell's Hero Cycle (yes, I know not everyone likes it For Reasons, but it's still a handy reference point for storytelling) will recognize that Chapter 10 is going to be the "flight from the underworld" chapter, Chapter 11 will be the denouement, and then the epilogia. If everything goes well, I'll have at
I thought, "Hey, I'll take a quick break before I go to bed and play some Tetris Effect." If you've never played it, Tetris Effect is the latest version of the game, and it's pretty much a Tetris game, but it has one very interesting play type that changes things; cooperative multiplayer.
...you get exactly the fruit you need.
So I'm pausing for a brief break of 5-15 minutes or so as I write chapter 9 of Empire, and I'm having to do this a lot for this particular scene.
Minor spoilers ahead, and I talk about dark subjects, you've been warned.
I'm at the most challenging part, the gap in the timeline that I've intentionally written around the entire story so far. There have been just enough changes in the overall character arc for Sunset that I'm actually having to adapt a few things ever so slightly to make sure everything fits.
If I were to take a guess, I'd say I'm about halfway done with Chapter 9 of Empire. For those curious, I'm breaking with the pattern that I've used for every other chapter and am using an album that's not a cover to provide the appropriate mood for the chapter. If you'd like to get a preview of what the intended atmosphere is for this part of the story, go ahead and take a listen to Fable by Ryan
...not so much for my overall health.
So as implied by the title of this blog post, I've gotten back to writing My Empire of Dirt. I've got the first 4-5 pages banged out and I'm going to see if my pre-reader can go along with my writing as I do it rather than reading after the whole chapter is done, if for no other reason to get it "out the door" faster.
So I originally posted this in reply to a Twitter post where someone was showing off their fan-art of EQG G5, and realized that there's enough for a good, solid story...that'll probably itch my brain until I write SOMETHING about it, so here:

OK, so I don't think I've ever posted this idea before, but it comes off the "humans are space orcs" thing that's been circulating on Tumblr for a while. I've kinda been playing around with it in the back of my mind, and I was listening to Humanity - Chapter IV by Thomas Bergersen just now and track 12 hit and I
