[Story Excerpt] The Drop-Off · 1:40am Jun 25th, 2015

As before, a passage from Galvanized. The tentpole moments in the story were everyman protagonist Kevin seeing how the HLF's struggle to turn away the ponies actually went down, and it was these moments I had actually drafted up to act as waypoints for the plot. Like Mad Max in the excellent recent movie Fury Road, he is less of a "main character" and more of the vessel through which we follow a larger story.

[Story Excerpt] Deal of a Lifetime · 3:21am Jun 15th, 2015

This is a scene from my cancelled TCB story Galvanized in which the protagonist, Kevin, meets with Oklahoma's HLF head honcho in a kind of interview/acclimatization process. I never edited, beta'd, or even second-passed the chapter this scene was in, so it stands as-is, but as a concept for a set-piece I'm proud of it (it's also where the title-drop occurs) and wanted to share it.

On Badasses and What Makes Them Badass · 6:21am Dec 2nd, 2014

This might be an ill-advised blog entry because I'm writing through a fever and it's late, but this pony fanfiction site is the only place I visit where I can even remotely pretend that me "writing about writing" is relevant to anything people are hanging around to see. I don't even know if a treatise like this exists elsewhere on FIMfiction but whatever, I can't get to sleep and whenever I close my eyes I see weird things which fool me into thinking I'm asleep and dreaming, so I'm gonna do

Happy Veteran's Day · 12:29am Nov 12th, 2014

Whether you call it that, Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, if you know someone who served, please thank them if you haven't already. Even during the best of times, duty permeates every aspect of your life. It's demanding living, hard on families and relationships, a perfect storm of boredom, obligation, trepidation, and, all too often, horror.

Always Say No Featured on Royal Canterlot Library! · 11:57pm May 23rd, 2014

A few weeks ago, I was approached asking if I would allow Always Say No to be put up on Royal Canterlot Library. I said yes, of course (I don't always say no, haw haw), and I very much enjoyed reading what RCL's staff had to say about it, which includes their own personal rationales for choosing it to be added.

Always Say No has a TVTropes page! · 4:20am Aug 14th, 2013

One of the readers of FiO: Always Say No dropped me a PM a little while ago telling me that the story now has a page over on TVTropes! I'm heavily biased to like this development, of course, but I still have to point out it's a cool feeling to know that someone took time to write up a page for something I created.

Out of Town This Week · 12:56am Jun 24th, 2013

I've been keeping to a tight updating schedule for the last few chapters of Always Say No, but tomorrow I'm heading out of town on business for a week and will probably be too busy to do FIMfiction things like write, update, or comment. Just letting y'all know.

Back to Work on Six Deeds · 2:04pm Dec 28th, 2012

Writing it has been fun so far, but The Deed of Fealty was hell and a half to get done, only partially due to the research I had to put into the Scots dialect. You fellow writers out there probably know what it means to lose momentum, and during the fall semester I lost it big time. I had enough work to be done that I didn't even want to look at a keyboard in my spare time. That was a far cry from the summer in which I'd first conceived of the story.

Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better · 12:09am Jul 31st, 2012

The Civilization V mod that was just released on the Steam Workshop is absolute proof that Equestria is unabashedly expansionist and at odds with the burgeoning neo-isolationist ideals that some doves in Europe and North America have started to foster in reaction to the US's post-9/11 foreign policy. I look forward to the talking-head blowhards on cable news debating with Equestrian courtiers about the brochures being passed out and the "free seminars" now being offered in New York, DC, and

There is something about medieval-ish stories in the FiM setting that just seems so right. It's like chocolate and peanut butter. I hope to see more of them out there soon!
