In the hot sands of the San Palomino desert, a band of nomadic, native buffalo are traversing the desert, mindful of it's dangers and obstacles, to reach water and food in some plains, unaware that they will soon cross paths with a band of ponies. The ponies, a group of inexperienced settlers from Canterlot seek to start a new life, but the clash between the two cultures, caused by miscommunication, differing plans for the land they live on and a common mistrust lead to conflict. How the conflict is resolved or carried out, and the effects it has on those involved are devastating, in a place where there is no right or wrong, just suffering on both sides. Hatred is a powerful feeling, and overcoming it is a near impossible task, but when faced with destruction, two young members of each side must overcome their mistrust of the other side to prevent the total destruction of both of their groups.
