I get the feeling we are either done with the memory dive or nearly done with it.
Have to wonder what all exactly was going on during her bout as Daybreaker.
So that was why he left the Changelings? To put off his conversation with Celestia? Oh Lordie. That Stallion really took a Sledgehammer to things rather than have an awkward conversation.
And he's still doing it isn't he? I don't think he's even aware he's doing it... He thinks he's doing what's best for people, but really he's just running from his problems and it's a lesson he still hasn't learned even thousand years later.
What I think is somewhat telling about Clover, and demonstrates how little he understands Celestia, is that he didn't question Daybreaker at all as being out of character. Assuming he wasn't being sarcastic when He commented that *all* Alicorns have a dark version that occasionally emerges, he KNEW Daybreaker was a Dark Manifestation and did nothing to stop it. Or he never knew or cared that Daybreaker wasn't the real Celestia. He feared her and rightly so. But it never struck Clover as odd. He saw the most exaggerated version of Celestias faults, her worst qualities taken to their extreme and absent of her virtues , and thought "Yup. That's Celestia alright." Which means when he looks at Celestia he doesn't see her virtues. He only sees her flaws. He saw the worst Celestia and didnt think anything was off.
Seeing Celestia like this, (Humble, compassionate) surprises him. Yet, this version of Celestia is the one we know she maintained for a thousand years. Alone. Thinking Clover was dead (never knowing he was an Alicorn) and unsure of she'd see her sister again. The sole alicorn. Immortal. Unchanging. And Clover never understood her. Not for a moment.
When he duels the Imposter Celestia at the Crystal Empire we (and Twilight) immediately sense some thing is wrong. We know that's not her. Who could've been fooled by such a thing? No one who knew the first thing about Celestia.
Ergo: Clover doesn't actually know Celestia. He took a child, plopped a crown on her head, handed her over to Platinum and Blueblood to teach and never actually knew her. He fell In love with Luna, chided Equestria for neglecting the younger sister, and all the while straight up abandoned Celestia.
And then, rather than be confronted by Celestia and the nation he abandoned, he also leaves the Changelings he's rebirthed. He repeats the cycle.
Are there any other races of people or Kingdoms he helped found, forged their leaders and then just went off into the sunset? He didn't secretly collapse the Griffon Empire did he? Has anyone checked with the Hippogrifs just to make sure?
Celestial is overdue an apology and some recognition from Clover when this is over...

I still enjoy hearing your analysis of how I've written these characters. I am aware of how flawed a personality Clover has, but I still love hearing someone else lay it out like this.
