My Pet Draconequus

Chapter 1

"Why am I still hanging around these ponies?" Discord asked himself this as he layed on a pink cloud while staring at the night sky. It was a peaceful night with a slight, cool breeze that caused the draconequus to shiver. He ignored the breeze, though, as he got lost in thought. It was just a little joke and a really harmless one on APRIL'S FOOLS DAY!!! All I did was switch everypony's manes and they threatened to turn me into a statue!! Even Fluttershy got mad at me! He huffed as he crossed his arms in anger. Why did I even bother trying to befriend them when they are just going to criticize every little thing I do?! Argh!! I should have known better!! After all, it has been the same thing ever since I was little and it will probably never change!! He turned over into a semicircle as his heart started to ache. "I wish I could find someone who understands me."

There was a sudden flash of light with a loud boom following it. Discord jumped up then froze as he saw the light moving rapidly towards him. A voice in his head yelled at him to run for his life but his body was frozen in place as the light got closer and closer. All he can do was watch as the light finally reached him. The impact knocked the air out of him as he was blinded. He started to feel weak and then he lost consciousness.

"Come on Ben!! Its going to rain!!" Jack yelled impatiently while his friend was answering the call of nature.

"Don't rush me!!" Ben answered from behind the bushes. He then came out while zipping up his pants.

"Finally!! Let's get to the cabin before we get caught in the rain." They ran down the trail then it started to drizzle. "Great!! You just couldn't hold in until we got back!"

"A little drizzle won't k... Gah!!" He yelled as he suddenly fell to the ground.

"Are you alright?" Jack stopped and helped Ben up.

"I'm ok. I just tripped on something." He looked down and saw a red reptilian tail with a big white tuft of hair at the end. "Is that a tail?"

"Yes and I think it's connected to that!" As Jack yelled he pointed to a weird looking creature laying on the ground. Ben jumped behind his friend when he saw what he tripped over.

"What the heck is that?!"

"How am I supposed to know!? I'm not a zoologist and get out of behind me you big wimp!" He pushed Ben away causing him to stumble.

"Do you think it is dead?"

"No its still breathing, maybe its just asleep." Jack picked up a long stick and started to walk closer to the creature.

"What are you doing?!" Ben's voice came out as a harsh whisper.

Jack ignored him and preceded getting closer until he was close enough to reach it with the stick. He poked the creature's face but nothing happened.

"I think it might be sick or something."

"What should we do then?"

"I think we should call the forest rangers to pick this thing up." He pulled out his cell phone and dialed the nearest ranger station.

Discord weakly groaned as he fluttered his eyes open. He felt like he was hit by a freight train then ran a marathon. He then opened his eyes and found himself to what he believed to be an animal shelter. He was in a chain linked kennel with a concrete floor and an empty food bowl next to him. There was a familiar strong odor of animal hair and feces which he remembered from being in Fluttershy's cottage. There were dogs and cats in the other kennels whispering to each other and staring at him. He then realized something that made him freeze. Before, he can always feel his magic flowing through him like is was his heartbeat but now he couldn't feel any of it. It was gone and it made him start to tremble. No no no no! This can't be happening! How can it be all gone?! I must be dreaming! But it is real...

"Hey, are you ok?"

Discord turned to his right to find a gray husky dog. He was very old and his bright blue eyes showed years of knowledge and wisdom.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Buddy."

"Where...where am I? How did I get here?" Discord couldn't hide the fear in his voice no matter how hard he tried.

"You're in the Big Bear Animal Sanctuary. The humans found you in a camping site not too far from here and brought you here."

"H-humans? What are humans."

Before the Buddy can answer him, a door opened from down the hall causing the other animals to get excited. A two-legged creature walked in with a bag of pet food. The best way to describe IT is that it looked like a hairless skinny ape with clothes. The only hair that it seemed to have is on top of it's head.

"What is that?"

"His name is Barry and he is one of the humans that takes care of us." Answered Buddy.

Discord didn't like any of this. He clearly wasn't in Equestria anymore and that light must have done something to him for him to be here and lose his magic. Maybe I should try talking to Barry and explain why I shouldn't be in this animal sanctuary. He thought it would be a good idea.

"Um....Barry isn't it? Can you let me out?" Barry didn't respond and instead kept on feeding the animals in the other kennels.

The husky raised a brow. "Ummm, he can't hear you."

"I can see that." Discord huffed a little and was about to try again before being interrupted by Buddy.

"No I mean he can't understand you. Humans cannot understand any other creature that isn't one of them. To them our words just sound like grunts, growls, barks, and meows."

"Seriously?" This can't be happening me right now! I'm stuck in a world without my magic with these humans that don't even understand me!

"Well, hello there." A kind male voice interrupted Discord from his thoughts. He looked up and saw Barry squatting at the gate. He didn't like the way Barry was staring at him, though. It felt like he was being inspected like some kind of trophy.

"Boy! You sure are a strange animal. I don't even know what to call you! Well the scientists will come up with something. I need to tell the others that you're awake." He got up and left Discord more confused and scared than ever.

"What...What does he mean by s-scientists?!"

Buddy's face went grave and his eyes became sad. "The scientists are the humans that experiment on things that no one has ever seen before and they are coming in two days to pick you up. I'm sorry that this has to happen to you kid. Despite looks, you seem to be a nice guy."

"They're going to.... experiment on.... me?" Buddy turned away from him and Discord felt like his world shattered right at that moment.

"No....no!! I don't want to become an experiment!!! There....there must be a way to get out of here!! I don't.... want to...." He broke down with tears in his eyes and his body trembling. He never felt more terrified in his entire life. Without his magic he was helpless and the thought of being turned into a science experiment scared him even more. His shoulders felt heavy as his chest tightened into a sob. He lost all hope and wished he was back in Equestria even though the ponies didn't treat him very nicely sometimes. I guess this is my destiny then. To become a science experiment in a world full of humans. He continued to weep for hours until he fell asleep from exhaustion.

Dark draconic figures with bright yellow and red eyes surrounded Discord in a dark forest, crying out horrible things about him.

"Get that freak of nature away from me!!!"

"It's deformed!!"

"It's a monster!!"

"That's not our child!!!"

Discord gasped as he awoke from his nightmare. Sweat dripped down his forehead as he tried to catch his breath. He glanced around his surroundings, seeing that he was still in his kennel. It was morning already and the other animals were awake and alert with happy expressions on their faces. Discord didn't pay much attention to them as he lowered his head and began to cry. He had the nightmare before many times for it reminded him of when his parents abandoned him for being deformed. It was the last thing he didn't want to think about it right now since he was going to be taken away tomorrow by scientists. The hallway door opened letting Barry in with food for the animals. Everyone got excited to be fed except for Discord. Barry went to each kennel and poured the pet food in their bowls. He then stopped in front of Discord's kennel and hesitated. After a minute he slowly opened the gate wide enough for his arm to fit through and poured some food into his bowl. Discord didn't pay any attention to any of this and, instead, layed on the floor in a sad semicircle. Barry closed the gate and preceded to feeding the others.

"You should eat your food before it gets stale." Buddy spoke while eating his food.

"I'm not hungry." His voice was sad and his face emotionless.

"It won't do you any good if you starve yourself. The humans will think you're sick or something."

"I don't care...."

Budddy sighed and continued eating his food. Discord was so depressed that he didn't hear the hallway door open again. A young human girl, about 16 or so, first came in followed by her mother. The girl had long brown hair and brown eyes full excitement. Her mother had short red hair with hazel eyes.

"You were really serious that I can get a pet?" The girl looked at her mother skeptically.

"Of course I was serious! Why are you so surprised?"

"Well it's just we already have two cats and a dog."

"True but I am pretty sure we add another one to the collection and it can be whatever animal they have here."

"Thanks mom!" The girl hugged her mother then walked to the kennels. She stopped at each one seeking for the perfect animal companion then stopped at Discord's kennel. If it was anyone else they would be afraid of him but she was not afraid but, instead, was curious. She squatted down to get a better look at him.

"Hi there big guy."

Discord just simply glanced at her then turned away again. She looked concerned and glance at the gate.

"Ummm.....you might want to..." Started Buddy before being interrupted by the draconequus.

"What now Buddy?"

"The girl..."

"I don't care what she thinks! I don't care what everybody th...." He froze when he felt someone touch him. He turned around and found the girl in the kennel with him. Discord was shocked by the fact she was in the kennel with him and he didn't know what to do. She looked at him with warm eyes and her face showed concern. He stared back at those eyes and felt a warm feeling come over him. She held out hand just a few inches away from his face. Some instinct took over making him nuzzle her hand. He didn't know why he was nuzzling her hand, just that it felt right somehow.

"Hazel!!!" Her mother cried when she saw her in the kennel with the draconequus. "What are you doing?!"

Hazel looked at Discord and looked back her mother with a smile. "Getting to know my new pet."

Saying Discord was shocked would be an understatement. He was completely frozen with jaw slightly open and his eyes wide. "A pet!!!!!" He'd never in a million years heard such a thing and didn't know what to think of it.

"Well at least you get to get out of here." Said Buddy.

"What do you mean?"

"If they adopt you now then those scientists can't harm you since there is a law against experimenting on pets. Plus the animal sanctuary doesn't have any rules against what animal can adopt or not."

Discord contemplated his situation. Ok if I stay I get taken away by scientists but if I become a pet then I will be safe. As humiliating it be to become a pet, it was better than becoming a science experiment. "Well I guess it can't worse."

It took me forever to get the first chapter done! I'm going to take my time on each chapter because at a certain point of writing sometimes I can't think straight so I can only do a little bit a time. I hope you guys enjoy this story. 😊😊😊

While some general editing is definitely in order, this has promise. Admittedly though, Discord's reason for wanting to leave Equestria is a bit hard to swallow. While I wouldn't put it past him to switch around everypony's mane, I highly doubt that they would get that mad at him. Maybe a bit peeved, but not nearly enough for him to wish he wasn't in Equestria.

Otherwise though, you have my attention. Do try to keep it.
