if they went with Discord then Tirek might have had the opportunity to grab their powers. Considering they transferred their powers out to Twilight that suggests that's out
Within Equestria it seems like the best solution to most problems is actually the magical macguffin, so her best move is to put the ponies with the macguffins in place.

Not... Really... Tirek couldn't absorb Celestia's power until he got to a certain power level, else he wouldn't have waited for Discord working on the same logic. If the Alicorns would have went to stop him first thing, the episode would have been wrapped up in the first 5 mins.
Also, interesting to see you are still reading my stories. Nice to see you again

I'm not 100% sure that's accurate but we usually disagree about that kind of stuff.
I skim the stories mostly, see if there's anything that interests me. What mostly keeps me coming back to this one is waiting to find out in Sunset's obvious easy undoing is true in this verse or not
Love the political intrigue. And I have to agree with the assessment of Celestia. It's not always what can the leader do, but do they know what to do and do they know who can do it. Why send an army when a single diplomat will do? Why send the dove when the hawk is more intimidating?
I support this view and I'm interested to see where you take it in the future
Relating to the soon-to-be-deleted blog-chapter: I'm not sure I understand the issue at hand.
Word count is irrelevant so long as those words are not mere filler material. This isn't a problem you've ever had, thankfully, so I'll ignore this.
You are correct that Trixie is beginning a new arc, but that's character development; if anything, then that's justification to keep the story bonded. The title is still relevant to Trixie even now as she enters her new arc.
My focus is now on Sunset, Starlight, and Celestia. Sunset has open issues with controlling Starlight and exercising sexism; all the while Celestia is investigating. New focus, new installment. That is assuming this intrigue becomes the main focus of the next installment, but if Trixie's slice of life tale holds our interest, then keeping the story intact sounds right.
TL;DR
Focus on Trixie building a stable life = Keep this volume intact.
Focus on the political intrigue of Sunset = Initiate a new volume.
