Signs and inner sins

“Ah ah ah ah ahh” Fluttershy sung lightly.
“Tweet tweet tweet tweet tweeett” A bird sung back.
“Ah Ah Ahhh~!” Fluttershy’s voice was about to go higher but a lump in her throat, or so it felt, clogged up and she was caught in a coughing fit which meant she was no longer flying high, she soon fell and hit her rear on the floor. Bird food scattering all over the grass, worried animals soon rushed over to her, particularly Angel whom stroked her back.

Discord was sat in his tree, which was located not too far from her house and heard the commotion, he was staying for the weekend, to catch up on all the adventures and jobs and generally whatever popped up lately.

Fluttershy had been saying that this cough has been lingering for a while now, and its causing a stir amongst the group, some fed up and angry, others worried but Fluttershy shrugged it off, seeing as though she was scared of the doctor.

Discord however was amongst those that was fed up and angry that she never put her fear aside and did something. Pathetic. And with that he clicked his fingers and was sat next to Fluttershy, who had calmed down.

“Fluttershy dearest, you really should see a doctor” Discord held out a paw to help her up but she got up on her own.
“I’m fine, it’ll go soon” Fluttershy said, almost collapsing.

Discord raised an eyebrow and shrugged his shoulders, “I’m warning you my dear, I’ve been around for a lot longer than you and other stallions have collapsed on their back with a cough like that” whilst he was saying this an image in a bubble was placed in front of Fluttershy, it showed a moment in which a stallion collapsed.

Fluttershy blinked for a moment before she realised what he meant.
“Don’t be silly, it’s not that bad…” Fluttershy put her head down, her hair covering her eyes, knowing full well that it was.

Discord turned and looked at the animals, all of them had their hand on their head in frustration.
“Fluttershy, look at your animals” Discord said with sorrow, his paw moving in the direction of all the animals, “Even they show concern”

Fluttershy sighed heavily and looked up at the animals, all of them showed grief in their eyes and some were even on their knees pleading at her.
“I- I can’t…” Fluttershy looked back down at the floor and fiddled with a flower.

Discord grunted, “Fluttershy… you’re so… difficult!” Discord threw his hands in the air in frustration.

Fluttershy bit her lip, “Discord I understand that your worried but I’m fi-“‘cough, hack, wheeze’
Her fragile legs couldn’t support her and within moments she fell to the floor, her hoof covering her mouth as she continued to struggle for breath.

Discord knelt down beside her and stroked her back, his face still held a frustrated expression.
After a few minutes of her catching her breath, Fluttershy with the help of Discord got back to her hooves.

She sighed and looked at her companion, Angel his face showed fear and concern.
“Maybe…” Fluttershy started, “Maybe I should go…”
Discord sighed heavily with relief and smiled towards Angel as if to say, “Good Job”
Angel smiled back. If there was one thing that was important to both Angel and Discord it was Fluttershy’s health. Seeing as though she was prone to illness.

Fluttershy trotted towards her home, almost falling over once but she gained her composure and got inside. Discord and Angel following behind. Which made Fluttershy feel a little nervous.

Once inside Discord clicked his fingers and the lights flickered on.
“Shall I begin dinner?” Fluttershy asked.
Angel made noises that only Fluttershy could understand, presumably from Discords point of view, he was indicating that he was hungry.
“Hopefully the pest won’t be too picky tonight” Discord thought to himself, all admiration for the bunny gone.

Fluttershy nodded and looked at her friend, “What about you Discord?” she coughed a little.
“Err um… oh! How about I make you dinner?” Discord said excitedly.
“Oh, alright but I need to make Angel…”
A clicking could be heard and with a swift turn, Fluttershy saw Angel eating some salad that Discord made, instantly it would seem.

“Amazing, he usually is very selective about his food” Fluttershy gazed at the bunny is shock.
“Selective… riiight….” Discord mumbled, “More like picky”
“What was that?” Fluttershy asked, turning back towards Discord.
“Nothing my dear” Discord smiled innocently, a halo appearing above his head.

Fluttershy raised an eyebrow and smiled.
“Right. Well how about some dinner?” Discord clapped his paw and talon together.
Discord clicked with his paw and within seconds, no moments they were transported to a hill. It overlooked Ponyville and with the sun setting, this would be a romantic moment.
“Wait romantic?” Fluttershy thought, her cheeks getting all the more brighter.

Discord looked at the mare with a sideway glance, he desperately tried to keep his composure but the expression on her face was priceless. However it quickly became sour.
‘Cough! Hack! Wheeze!’
Fluttershy coughed so bad that her head began to hurt. Though she wouldn’t admit it openly.
Discord rolled his eyes and opened the picnic basket that was placed in front of them.

After Fluttershy stopped coughing and her breathing was normal, she noticed the basket and its slight glow.
“Now my dear, this basket isn’t no ordinary picnic basket. All you’ve got to do is ask it what you want, and it’ll appear… magically of course.” Discord smiled.
“That’s… neat” Fluttershy said, hiding the pain in her head.

“You don’t sound to enthusiastic.” Discord said, sounding hurt.
“Oh no, don’t get me wrong Discord its amazing! But… I…”
Discord thought for a moment before it hit him, “Don’t tell me you can’t even ask this basket for something without feeling nervous?”
Fluttershy nodded, her head facing the floor.

“Well tell me what you want and I’ll ask the basket for you” Discord said with a soft tone, being angry wasn’t going to solve anything.
Fluttershy looked at her friend, but by her expression she wasn’t too sure what to ask, however she didn’t want to keep her friend waiting too long.

“How about a salad?” Fluttershy asked.
Discord’s smile turned into a frown “Little boring isn’t it?” Discord said disappointedly, “I mean you can ask for anything that your little heart could ever dream, surely there is something more than salad that you like to eat?” He clapped his hands together sweetly but saw her face getting pinker with nerves, he felt a little bad for pushing her.

Fluttershy bit her lip and gulped, her nerves and the setting was just getting to her.
“Salad is fine…” Fluttershy said her voice slowly getting more silent.
Discord didn’t hear a word, except salad so he yelled, “Fruit Salad, Yummy, Yummy, Fruit Salad, Yummy, Yummy Fruit Salad, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Fruit Salad!”
And with a poof cloud appeared momentarily, but when it went away a fresh looking fruit salad was served on a silver platter.

Fluttershy without really realising was licking her lips, her tummy growled and if Discord had not seen her tummy rumble then he may have assumed a dragon was near.
“You’re really hungry… aren’t you?” Discord said slightly surprised. Fluttershy had already taken a bite from it. “I suppose it’s down to the animals taking too much time in the day?” Discord laid on his back, grabbing a bunch of grapes, “I have noticed that your animal friends have found, shall we say partners?”

Fluttershy chocked a little on her food with surprise but quickly rubbed away the mess around her mouth, “Y- yes they have… it is that time of year after all, why some have even laid eggs”
Discord nodded his head.
“Um, I am nervous since they get a little close for comfort? With me that is… especially the bear, I really have to watch out for him… oh I’ve said to much haven’t I?”

Discord chuckled, “Not exactly the best imagery when eating”
They both laughed before eye contact broke the laughter.
“Ever think you’ll find a stallion my dear?” Discord asked before chewing on a grape.

“No… I doubt it. I just couldn’t possibly…” Fluttershy sighed and picked up an apple fritter that was for some odd reason in the salad.
Fluttershy’s ears perked up and a devious smile crept on her face, “What about you?” she said in her most humble voice.

Discord sat upright and spat out the seeds, “Oo Fluttershy have you been around Rarity too much? Or are you secretly into all the gossip?”
“It could be Rarity I suppose but I was curious… so come on, will you or have you find your special somepony?” Fluttershy asked, although she did feel rude asking such personal information, this chance was so rare.

Discord sighed heavily before laying back down, “I did have one pony that I thought was perfect in every way, the way she looked the way she smiled and her manners were top notch”
Fluttershy then like a timed event hiccupped, “Excuse me…”

“You’re pardoned” Discord smiled, “Anyway. Then over time this pony became more interesting and not so perfect. She had a side that only a true friend could tap into and see. I really cared for her and I think she cared for me, maybe even a little too much. But when I had to change and become something I’m not to please her, it became. Overbearing… I hated that life. And when I stepped out of line I was punished. But now I’ve changed and I’m not having to be something I’m not and I can keep part of myself” Discord turned his head, his eyes looking so serene. Like a massive ton of weight had been thrown of his shoulders.

Fluttershy however could feel a chill, seeing as though the sun was long gone.
“Oh my look how late it is” Discord said whilst stretching every nook and cranny in his body.
Fluttershy smiled and coughed a little before she got to her hooves, “I think we should head back”

“Hmm? Oh yes that might be a good idea” Discord said, now that he himself felt the cold chill in the air. And with a click they were in the cottage front room, a roaming fire in the fire place.
Angel only opened his eye slightly, he was previously sleeping in his favourite spot.

“Oh Angel…” Fluttershy smiled, Discord felt that she was very motherly and it was more obvious than ever when it came to Angel.
She scooped him up, her wings open and flapping. She took him upstairs and tucked him away under her bed cover. “I’ll be in bed soon…” Fluttershy kissed the bunny on the forehead and stroked him gently, before heading to the doorway and leaving the door slightly open. Just the way he liked it.

Discord was observing her antiques that seemed to be growing over the years. Many of animals whilst some just photos of her adventures.
Fluttershy made it downstairs as silent as she could and sat on her chair in without her realising in an unintentionally mixed message kind of way. Discord turned before turning back, his cheeks bright red.

Fluttershy lifted her head and saw her friend turned away, his arms looking like their forced downwards and his face, from what she could see, was bright red. Fluttershy looked behind the sofa but nothing was there, then she noticed the way she was sat.

She was laying down on her stomach, one leg was off the sofa whilst the other was upright. Fluttershy gasped and went bright red herself, “Oh Fluttershy why are so clumsy?!” Fluttershy scolded herself – in her head.

She sat upright and tucked her hair behind on of her ears, she didn’t know what to say. Discord was still facing the other way and his muscles looked stiff.
“Oh dear…” Fluttershy mumbled.

Discord couldn’t face turning around, his face was still red. “Look at you now Discord…” A voice laughed, “Guess karma got you back huh?”

Fluttershy got to her hooves and trotted over to Discord. When she got close to him, she tapped his lion hand. Discord felt a chill up through each hair of his fur, he turned his head and tried to hide his discomfort, “Y- yes my dear?”
Fluttershy looked up at him, “I’m going to bed… it’s late and...”
“Late?” Discord looked at the clock on the wall, above the fire, “Hehehe, where did the time go?”

Fluttershy smiled, “Yeah…”
The two stared at each other a smile plastered on their faces, one was from the awkward atmosphere and scene that took place only moments ago. But the other was genuine, though she felt embarrassed about her carelessness towards how she may act towards male guests, she knew he would be okay and it won’t leave too much grief.

Fluttershy soon took herself to her room, Discord was to sleep in the spare guest room or his room, seeing as though no one else usually stayed over at her home. It is usually one of the best times to relax and observe the wonders of silence but not this night, coughing echoed through the corridors and often gagging sounds could be heard when the coughing got too much.

Discord wanted to go and pat her back or at least help her but the scene from before was stained in his mind and seeing her now would not be good for him. He rubbed the back of his head and sighed heavily, before falling asleep.

5563707 You were totally referring to me there, weren't you?

So I'm wondering if Flutters is gonna die. There's both a sad and tragedy tag on the story, so I can see that happening. Also, BlindBlossom has written another story where Discord has to deal with Fluttershy's death, so I can actually see this story heading down that same path. I seriously hope not, but I can see it happening.

If Flutters does die though, I'm glad we are able to see her and Discord form a relationship. (Go Fluttercord! You are my OTP! ) Most stories just cover Fluttershy dying and Discord's reaction, but I can tell this one will let us see them bond and grow in love (OMG! That sounded cheesy and sappy! ) Unfortunately for us readers, that will make it all the harder to handle if Fluttershy does die... Thanks a lot, BlindBlossom!

Well, I've run out of crying/sad/angry ponicons, so MlpFluttershy is out. Peace!
