Writing this after midnight, mostly because I really wanted you guys to have a post this morning (or tomorrow morning from when I write this), one that wasn’t the Classic Being a Better Writer post that’ll go up on Saturday.
This is going to be a short post. I've still got some editing to do today, and it's a weekend, so I should be relaxing and taking the day to rest but ... Jungle. Gotta get Jungle into Beta.
This one came across my feed this morning. I'll warn you before I post the link: severe language warning.
Why? Because this author is angry. And you know what? I understand their anger. I really do. I've seen some hard numbers on the Piracy of my books. One site (just one, mind you) kept track of how "popular" piracy of my books was. If I sold half the copies that were pirated, I wouldn't need my second job. I could be writing full time.
Hey readers. Got a bit of an interesting one for you today. How well do you look at user reviews when you’re examining a product?
Oh boy. I woke up this morning to see this article on the front page of r/books, and you know … I’ve never fisked anything … but this piece couldn’t be ignored. For those not in the know, a “fisking” is when someone replies point by point to the salient points of an article, offering a piece by piece rebuttal. I’ll let you read
So, random thought for today, but have you ever considered how differently review-blurbs are treated for books than they are for any other medium?
So this one’s been on my list to write about ever since Jungle launched. Things have been … pretty busy, which is why it’s taken this long to get to it. But no matter where I’ve been, or what I’ve been doing, this topic has weighed on the back of my mind (even when sick, lol).
Hello readers! I hope things are well with you in these turbulent times. Me? I’ve already voted. Now I’m just waiting for the madness of the election to be over so that book sales actually accomplish something once more. And, you know, actually exist.
Normally I wouldn't post on a Sunday at all, let alone a Sunday morning, but I'm under the weather (fighting off flu) and a sibling just dropped this absolute gem of a video into my lap ... So I really wanted to share it with you guys.
This ... is the power of marketing. Oh, and language warning.
This one might be a little … scattered. Why? Well, I just got back from the dentist.
