The Great Dying that prematurely ended the reign of the mammal ancestors and nearly destroyed all multicellular life on the planet was dim memory upon the landscape which it ravaged 25 million years earlier. The air was thick despite the lower oxygen levels than the present, still dense with humid moisture spurred by the hotter morning sun.
