After stepping back from the discussion, it's pretty clear we've gotten irreparably off-topic. No real fault of anyone*, it's just the kind of subject that tends to bring out the flames. Since the thread is far beyond its original discussion, I'm going to lock the thread.

* I do take responsibility for my initial hardline response and subsequent defense, though. If this topic comes up again, I will keep to a less-charged and reasonable response.

If anyone wishes to continue the debate on any particular tangent, a new thread may be the place for it - though I would suggest taking a few hours to let any tempers simmer down, and keep in mind if it's not related to writing, ponies, or the group, it is probably best started elsewhere.
