Here you will find a short biography of each reviewer's preferred stories and what tags they like to read. An abbreviated list will be provided below but please read each introduction carefully to find the reviewer best suited for your story. If you have no preference, you may submit to the main folder.

The breakdown is as follows:

Reviewer name: Will review: (these are genres the reviewer indicates they are most comfortable with). Will maybe review: (these are genres a reviewer may circumstantially review, if you are unsure please contact the reviewer first). Will not review: (these are stories a reviewer will refuse, do not submit these or they will be removed from their folder.) Estimated timeline: (this is about how long it takes a reviewer to complete a review, will vary based on length of story and other circumstances). Harshness Estimate: (this is a number that indicates if a reviewer thinks they are better for newer authors or more experienced authors: score 1 reviewers are better geared for newer authors and score 3 reviewers are better geared for experienced authors).

The Red Parade
Group Admin

Hello there! I'm Red Parade, administrator of the group and part time reviewer.

When I was a young author, Seer took me into a discord server to see a marching band the Quills and Sofas Speedwriting Server. I've published a lot since then and have also acted as an editor and prereader for others, while also reviewing quite a few stories before settling down here.

In terms of writing accomplishments, I've currently published about 70 stories on the site to varying degrees of quality. I'm a regular speedwriter on the Quills and Sofas discord and have won my fair share of contests there, I also currently hold four Equestria Daily features, one Seattle's Angels feature, and a feature in the Royal Canterlot Library.

Review Style:

After moving to this group I have decided to drop the scoring portion of my reviews. Instead, I'm adopting the Present Perfect method of scoring stories and will give your story a category: Not Recommended, Vague Recommendation, Conditional Recommendation, Recommended, and Highly Recommended.

My review breakdown is fairly straightforward:

Story link goes here

Author: link goes here

Story description goes here

Summary: Summary in my own words goes here

Thoughts:

Opening thoughts go here

Plot:

Plot goes here

Characters:

Verdict

Preferences:

I'm not necessarily a picky reader but I do have a few hard no's.

I will read: Romance, adventure, slice of life, drama, mystery, sad, tragedy, horror, and thriller.

I will consider: Dark, comedy, Alternate Universe, SciFi, gore, Fallout Equestria.

I will not read: Porn, clop, sex, crossover, fetish, second-person, human, displaced, Aryanne, fix fics.

I am also a big fan of background ponies, the more obscure the better. Do with that information what you will.

Scale:

My goal is to give the author the information they need to improve. Because of that, I will point out things that I see which can potentially weaken a story and make recommendations to improve them. I don't believe in sugar coating things but I also don't believe in tearing down a story for no reason: I won't make claims about a story that I won't back up with evidence. I'd gauge myself as a 2-3 reviewer in the sense that I'm not overly harsh or critical, but I will point out errors and offer criticism, so newer authors be warned.

All that being said, please remember that I'm just one guy. My opinion on your story only weighs as much as you let it and you're more than entitled to a second opinion. A not recommended from me doesn't mean your story sucks, it means there's a chance for improvement. I hope to help you make that happen.

Cheers!

Hello! I'm Mushroom! I've been around the site since about 2013, and I've managed to read a huge variety of fanfic since then. My tastes are eclectic - I enjoy a gory horror as much as a sappy romance, and the traditional as much as the experimental. That said, I notice the little things! I may not have preferred genres, but I will certainly pick at each element of your story.

As far as credentials go, I am an educator! I get paid to read others' work and pick it apart to help them improve their abilities. If you want to know more about my personal writing skills and abilities, there's no better way than to skim a few of my own stories.

The main categories I analyze are:

  • Plot/concept (does the idea make sense? Is it interesting and original? How well is it executed?)
  • Pacing/length (does the story move at a logical pace? Does the length match the concept? Does it reach a satisfying conclusion?)
  • Characterization (do the characters act similar to their canon counterparts? Do they serve the story and the other characters involved? For OCs, are the characters distinct and well-developed?)
  • Writing quality (is the prose interesting and varied? Is the word choice appropriate? Does the style match the story?)
  • Je Ne Sais Quoi (was the story enjoyable? Did I have fun reading it?)

Each of these will be scored on a scale of 1-5, and each will be weighted equally in the overall score.

Despite my broad and unpredictable tastes, I will have to occasionally turn down fics. If you send me a crossover with a property I'm not familiar with, I won't be able to do it justice in the least! I also may turn down certain clop stories, human stories (in the style of displaced, HiE, etc - not eqg stories), and random comedy stories based upon content and execution - I really won't be able to make a judgement call on this until I've started reading. I'd like to give every fic a fair chance, but these are the sorts of fics I am harshest on due to my own personal tastes and biases. If I feel that this will interfere with my ability to to review your story, I will politely turn it down.

In summary:

I will read: Anything

I might read: Porn/clop, human stories, random comedies

I will not read: Crossovers with properties I am not familiar with, anon stories, Aryanne stories

Timeline wise, I hope to review 1-2 stories of medium length (5k-10k) per month. I put a lot of work into reviews! It's time-consuming and requires multiple reads, note-taking, and a lot of writing, but this will be my goal.

As far as harshness goes, I have rated myself at a 2 out of 3. I am not shy about identifying flaws and expounding upon them, but I make every effort to be polite and pair good with the bad. My goal in this group is to encourage other authors to push themselves and to grow! My reviews will always be focused on that - improvement. I also like to round out my reviews with a spoiler-free recommendation blurb. I also do my best to summarize the way a story might align with my personal tastes, and make clear any bias I might have in your rating. I will always do my absolute best to review in an unbiased manner, and I may recommend other reviewers check your story out if I think I haven't done it justice.

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to see what you submit!

Howdy, hi all

Name's DaOtterGuy and you might know me as that guy who writes too much gay Flash Sentry (I welcome your boos). I've had some experience writing reviews before and look forward to looking over your submitted stories. The following are a few things to keep in mind before submitting to my folder.

My Review Format

I grade out of 10 based on an average of the following four categories:

Technical: mechanical ability of the writing. Full marks if the spelling and grammar are solid.
Character: the personalities and "voice" of the characters in the story. Higher points are given for sticking to canon, showing an interesting side to the character, or an original entertaining and interesting personality in place of the previous
Concept: The themes of the story, originality of the concept, and the hook. Higher points for a unique idea or excellent execution.
Vibe: the official vibe check. Points are given based on the execution of the overall work. So the story, the flow, and the prose. Higher points for solid execution and engaging work.

Now, fair warning my genre specialties are Horror and Romance so be prepared for me to be stricter on my review since that's my wheelhouse.

Additionally, at the end of my review, I will include a section on my personal feelings about the story as well as a quick personal score separate from the final scoring. To be clear, this is a score based solely on my biased opinion without any basis on the technical ability of the piece.

Review Preferences List

Will Review: All Stories excluding Will Not Review List
Will NOT Review: Random, HIE or displaced, Graphic Succide/Self Harm, Certain fetishes noted in my extended verison, and Some Crossovers (Dependent, PM me directly for confirmation)

Extended Will NOT Review List

Random: This is mostly because it's not really my thing, so I find it difficult to give a meaningful response. I will sometimes give exceptions, but be warned that I am more likely to reject them.

Humans in Equestria/Displaced: I don't like this genre, apologies

Graphic Suicide/Harm: I will not read something with a graphic suicide scene, those that border the edge I will accept but I would suggest PMing me for confirmation

Fetish Work: Absolutely no Diaper play, scat, or any of its ilk. I also will never consider feminization, bimbofication, mind control, or similar. No incest and no foalcon.

Crossovers: I will only review crossovers of worlds I'm familiar with. Feel free to PM me for confirmation.

Timeline

I have several irons in the fire as it were, but my goal will be to do about five stories a month for small to medium-length fics.

Harshness

I would rate myself at a harshness of about 1 out of 3. I try to be as fair as possible with an emphasis on separating my personal enjoyment from the technical aspects of a fic. I am the type of person that if I cannot give a clear answer for why I think something needs improvement I do not incorporate it into the review.

Thank you very much, and I look forward to your stories!

Hello, hello.
Am I where I'm supposed to be? I think I am... right?

Joking aside, my name is Scoping Landscape, amateur writer and avid reader.
Before you send your stories into my folder, I would like to lay down a few things first.

Format

(cover picture, if any)
(name of story)
(name of author)
(summary)

Preliminary thoughts
(usually what I hope to see based on the summary, characters,...)

Characters
(characterizations and things pertaining to it)

Prose
(how it is written: grammar and word choice will be discussed here)

Plot
(how the story goes: pacing and flow)

Afterthought
(a comparison between my feelings before and after reading the story)

Recommendation Score
(between 1 and 10, 1 being "No, please don't", and 10 being "Yes, yes, yes. Why haven't you read this?")

Preferences

Genres I'm comfortable with: Mystery, Adventure, Slice of Life, Sad, Tragedy, Drama
Genres I'm maybe comfortable with: Crossover (need to see what that's crossing over with), Suicide/Self-Harm (it takes a lot out of my emotional tank to read them), Gore (I'm fine with light gore, but if you're going into the gritty details, I'm not your guy), Horror (is it atmospheric, or straight out?), Random, Comedy, AU, and Sci-Fi
Genres I'm not reviewing: Sex & Fetish (can't focus), and fix fics

Harshness: 2 out of 3. I'm not threatening at all, but I will tell you if your story is riddled with errors (very politely, of course).

Timeline: I try to put out a review once every two weeks or so. If it's going to be delayed because of real life situations, I will give you a heads-up.

I think that should be it. Anything in the "maybe comfortable" category can be asked in DMs/PMs for clarification. Remember, I'm just one person, and so my opinion matters as much as you want it to. Otherwise, enjoy yourself while writing, and I look forward to reading what you are writing/have written.

Zontan
Group Admin

Hey everyone, I'm Zontan, fearless leader of Quills and Sofas Speedwriting and author of a bunch of fics that hit the feature box, so I must be doing something right.

Review Format

I grade on a five-point scale, averaged across three categories.
Plot & Pacing: How well the story did from a pure story perspective. Was the plot interesting? Was it too fast or slow, did important details get covered, was it original and did it make sense? This covers everything from theming to story structure.
Characters: Who were the main characters of the piece, and what are they about? Did they feel in-character, are they three-dimensional and interesting to read about?
Mechanics: This covers the purely mechanical bits of the piece. Spelling, grammar, sentence structure, word choice.

I look at stories from the lens of how well they accomplish what they set out to do. That means I'll judge an intricate, complex story more harshly than something that's just trying to be cute and fluffy. If your story is a romantic slice of life, I'll be looking at whether the events that brought the main characters together made sense - if your story is a complex crime drama, I will pick apart your plot holes.

It's also worth noting that my scale is weighted towards the middle, rather than the top like many review sites - 3/5 will likely be the most common score.

5/5: Flawless. Above and beyond. The story went places I didn't expect, or did exactly what it needed to do to convey its message. The characters felt alive. The prose was not only mechanically sound but went out of its way to be evocative.
4/5: Does what it set out to do well. The story has strong themes and was well paced. The characters are three-dimensional. There are no mechanical errors and the story is easy to read.
3/5: Solid, but with something missing. The themes are present, but might be muddled, or something didn't make sense. The characters are in-character but flat. The story is mechanically sound but still contains awkward sentences or poor word choices.
2/5: Needs improvement. The story is dull, or there's an obvious solution that isn't addressed. The characters are one-dimensional or out-of-character. There are clear spelling and grammar mistakes.
1/5: No redeeming qualities. The story is nonsensical. The characters are all the same or wildly out-of-character. The grammar and spelling are actively detrimental to the enjoyment of the piece.

Preferences

Will read: Adventure, Slice of Life, Romance, Comedy, AU, Sci-Fi, Horror
Will consider: Sad/Tragedy, Thriller, Drama, Mystery, HiE, Second Person, Random
Won't review: Suicide/Self Harm, Sex/Fetish, Gore, Anon, Crossovers, Trollfics, Aryanne, anything over 50k words.

Timeline

I know how I work, and it's only under pressure. Whatever the minimum requirements are, I will meet but not exceed them. As such, if you want speedy turnaround, I'm probably not your guy.

Harshness

Somebody has to be that guy. I'm the 3 out of 3 harshness. I'm not going to insult you or try to be mean, but I will be frank about what does and doesn't work about your piece. I will be the first to advocate for your piece if it's really good, but I will also tell you what needs to be fixed if it's not. If you're looking for someone to tell you what they liked about something while ignoring the flaws, look elsewhere. If you're looking to know how to improve, I might be able to help.
