So, one of the settings that the League of Sweetie Belles has been suggested to visit is Equestria Divided. It's slightly different than the usual 'Equestria at War' settings because it's not Celestia versus Luna or Equestria versus some outside force, it's the Mane Six each heading up their own faction and battling each other. Not something I've seen before. That said, there are a few issues.

  • The original creator of the setting has basically vanished from the face of the internet.
  • While there are a lot of notes and backstory, there is not a core story of events we can refer to as canon.
  • Trying to write multiple factions all interacting evenly with our intrepid explorers and keeping it balanced would be difficult.

So, I approached GMBlackjack a while back about an idea I had, and he agreed that it sounded pretty good. Now that LSB Chap 19 is in production, it seems like a fair time to put this idea into preproduction. And what is this idea?

Quantum Warfare, Collaborative Competitive Storytelling.

A bunch of authors (GMBlackjack included) will gather and role-play the outline of the LSB's adventures on Equestria Divided, each of us taking control of one of the six main factions. Right now, what we need are volunteers to play this that or the other group; we can work out schedulings at some future point, but it's probably going to be next month at the earliest. The whole thing will probably happen on roll20.net, being the only online tabletop simulator I could find with a built-in playing card deck, and while microphones are not required, it would make things smoother.

Also I claim the Cult of Laughter as my faction.

The following eight posts are reserved for Equestria Divided Lore, or rather the portion of Equestria Divided Lore that is as close to core canon as I can find. Aside from individual faction outline and army pictures from the Deviant Art Group, I will be referencing Fujin777's timeline and cast outline in the construction of lore notes. I should also note that byLisboa's Equestria Divided comics (Prequel and Main) seem to be the most coherent stories of Equestria Divided; that isn't to say that they're canon, only that I can see them easily happening from canon and therefore they could be used to help define the tone.

And that's the thing being planned! Who's ready to go dark?

History Of The World Of Equestria Divided

ACS (After the Celestia Sisters)

  • Pre ACS

    • Elements of what would become the Cult of Laughter take root.

  • ACS 0

    • The Royal Sisters Princesses Celestia and Luna vanish without a trace one day without any warning or any sign of where they've gone; ponies start to panic.
    • The Elements of Harmony try to stem the chaos as revolt after revolt erupts in Equestria.
    • Princess Cadence and her husband Shining Armor in the immediate aftermath are put in place as the temporary rulers of Equestria until the Royal Sisters are found.

    • Chaos and death begin to seep in as everypony sees that the sun and moon are moving like normal.
    • The political parties of “White Horns” a Unicorn Supremacy Group and "Cautious Transformation" a group loyal to the Royal Sisters form.

The conspirators are quickly caught and executed though a persistent rumor to the present day claims it was set up by rivals of the Sparkles to gain power over Equestria.

ACS 5

  • Twilight joins the Society of Moon and Star.
  • Twilight summons her friends to Canterlot and tells them of the Forced Alicorn Transformation in which Applejack by this point in her eyes declares Twilight insane beyond reasoning and leaves her friends for good causing her to be branded as a traitor to the crown along with her family.
  • Rarity and Fluttershy stay as Twilight attempts to try the Forced Alicorn Transformation Spell with Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash as volunteers.
  • The experiment fails horribly as Pinkie Pie is killed, the left side of Rainbow Dash's face is scared horribly, and Twilight for some reason is intact. Rarity and Fluttershy are horrified and call Twilight a killer before both leave her in which Rainbow Dash follows shortly there afterwards.
  • Rarity receives her first diagnoses on her disease called Crystalitis.
  • Out west, Applejack receives word of the horrific experiment and vows to rid Equestria of all unicorn magic by forming the group known as House Earthborn with her family in which she later receives the "True Eyesight" after participating in a Buffalo ritual that in exchange for her right eye allows her to see past any lie or deception with ease.
  • Earthborn-Buffalo Alliance is formed.
  • House Everfree is formed by Fluttershy which starts out as refugee camps trying to stay out of the war, but later evolves into a force to be reckoned with after a group of raiders attacks the refugee camps causing Fluttershy to become enraged and summon the beasts of the Everfree Forest that takes down the raiders that in the aftermath, many follow Fluttershy into the forest whom she's supposedly guided by "The Voice of the Everfree."

ACS 6

  • House Whitegold is established from the Equestria Trade Union; Blueblood is killed shortly after its formation whom Rarity assumes control after his death, but she is rumored to have played a major role or had been responsible for her husband's death though she's never charged with Blueblood's death.
  • House Stormwing is formed from many Pegasus including Rainbow Dash and by Pegasi who were once members of the Royal Guard forced to flee to escape persecution in which they name their house after General Stormwing; a famous Pegasus General with hopes of creating a Pegasus-Dominated Military state over Equestria.
  • Shortly after its founding, House Stormwing enters an alliance with the Griffins forming the Stormwing-Griffin Alliance.
  • Pinkie Pie's body is stolen from Canterlot; no one knows where it has gone since.
  • Out in the Bad Lands, several Changeling Hives sign a Truce Pact or Alliance with the goal of taking over Equestria in its weakened state. Despite this however, they still view each other with distrust and each wants to rule the war-torn land themselves including Queen Chrysalis.
  • Twilight starts her experimentation on Spike; her dragon assistance whom the baby dragon is tricked into being a test subject thinking it'll help him protect Twilight.

ACS 7

  • In the wake of the houses Earthborn, Everfree, Whitegold, and Stormwing forming, the Society of Moon and Star transforms into House Moon and Star with the goal of keeping the teachings of the Royal Sisters alive no matter the cost.
  • The political party White Horns is dissolved along with Cautious Transformation.

  • House Earthborn receives reports of Changeling activities west of Equestria and across the boarder in the Wastelands which several teams are sent to investigate that confirm the reports of Changeling activity. After several bloody fights and cleansing of towns along with farms from Changeling control, watch towers are established along the boarder to keep an eye on further Changeling activities on orders of the leaders of House Earthborn.

ACS 9

  • Twilight dons the title of Archmagister as within a short period of time, she becomes the most influential member of the house as Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor are gradually reduced to figureheads to keep the populace under check.
  • All traces of White Horns and Cautious Transformation are swept away as members are either imprisoned or executed.
  • Ponyville is flooded by House Stormwing which in turn causes House Earthborn to declare war on them. Unknown to either party, it was instigated by Twilight by tricking Rainbow Dash and her house to do the deed under the disguise of crushing a rebellion.
  • Twilight now known as Archmagister Twilight Sparkle manages to annex the town of Hoofington into Moon and Star's grip a bloodless success thanks to her threat of opening a portal to Tartarus below the town. Whether this was a bluff or a real threat by Twilight is still debated to the present day.
  • Twilight or Archmagister Twilight tries a third attempt at the Forced Alicorn Transformation Spell using Moon and Star Slaves; it ends in failure causing her to abandon the idea for now.......

ACS 10

  • After being in the shadows for a decade, the Cult of Laughter rears its ugly head.
  • Manehatten, the home of House Whitegold finishes walling itself off leaving a good chuck of its citizens open and vulnerable to attacks.
  • Twilight finishes experimenting on Spike, transforming him into a weapon of mass destruction after which he's used to protect Canterlot and crush any rebellions from within the house itself.
  • Shortly after its appearance, ponies belonging to the Cult of Laughter claiming to be "Prophets" appear in Equestria spreading word of the so-called "Laughing Mare" which include Cranky Doodle Donkey and Derpy Hooves.
  • A year after the destruction of Old Ponyville, New Ponyville is established by House Earthborn to replace the lost town, but rumors of possible activity at the ruined town continue to float around despite lack of evidence by many.

ACS 11 to ACS 15

  • Due to the sudden appearance of the Cult of Laughter, all five houses (Moon and Star, Earthborn, Stormwing, Everfree, and Whitegold) focus efforts to combat them while at the same time continuing to go at each other further destroying the once beautiful land of Equestria.
  • During the period of ACS 11, an invasion force of House Earthborn led by General Big Macintosh leader of the Juggernaut forces is thwarted by the sole efforts of Lady Fluttershy who summons two Everfree Hydras to repel the invasion which to this day is the only recorded event of House Everfree being involved with the war overall in general.
  • Battle of New Ponyville occurs likely in ACS 12 with House Earthborn victorious.
  • During the year ACS 13, a plague of Laughing Dead attack Undercity of Whitegold without warning. Led by Lord Fancypants of Whitegold, the attack is thwarted though the ones who caused the outbreak or attack are never caught, but rumors persist to the present of a Cult of Laughter Cell being present in Manehatten.

Now here's the thing: do I pick house Everfree or Whitegold?

Or do we need someone to handle the 'house Merodi' and the world itself?

I'm kind of assuming that the League gets trapped in Equestria Divided.

Mattie: "Oh, welp, looks like a Ka storm. No portals in or out till it settles, which means you're going to be stuck in plot. You can still talk with us because of reasons, apparently."

Granted, it's probably best to figure that out after we get enough writers to do this.

That works too, though they may need someone to control them separately...

Oh well, if we have seven people, we can tackle the Sweeties. Six, we'll figure something out.

You could probably make a post about this to the LSB authors too if you felt like it.

I think I'll grab House "Unicorn Master Race" Moon and Star (if that's alright)

I volunteer for House Whitegold, if not one of the independent factions like the Flim Flam Folly.

I'm honestly surprised that the Windegoes haven't descended on Equestria by now.

Guess I'm Everfree by default then, pending further review.

  • Elements of what would become the Cult of Laughter take root.
  • Twilight Sparkle defeats Tirek with the power of four alicorns. The Golden Oaks library is repaired. The tree of harmony's gift is forgotten.

If Twilight fought with the power of four alicorns wouldn't that mean that she herself ascended and wouldn't need the Forced Alicorn Transformation spell? (FATs)

Twilight was an alicorn, yes. But from what I've seen, she stopped being an alicorn around the time Celestia and Luna mysteriously vanished. Doylistically it's probably because the setting was started pre-season three, but watsonianly it's just a mystery. "She lost her wings because... she just did, okay?"

MMMmmm, interesting. This is my first exposure to the whole concept.

So, Twilight de-ascended? Back to plain unicorn?

And, so dark.

Dr. Whooves – traveler, scholar and investigator, his goals are unknown but seem to have something to do with the disappearance of the Princesses

The Doctor working with the FlimFlam brothers ... given how crazy some of his contraptions have been over the years, it makes sense, but I can't really see him working with liars and cheats like them.

One: I didn't make the setting.

Two: Just because the pony is called Doctor Whooves doesn't mean the pony is The Doctor.

Three: This little detail might not even become relevant in the story.

At the moment, we are trying to find writers for each group. Once that's done, we'll probably start discussing more exact details.

So to check:

Moon and Star: VoidTemplar
Whitegold: MalMasque
Everfree: GMBlackjack, unless he's playing the Sweeties (might be interesting to have another author play the Sweeties...)
Cult of Laughter: Me

That leaves Earthborn and Stormwing, if we just want to leave the Sweeties as a neutral force that gets bounced around by everyone.

This sounds interesting and fun, but I don't think I know even the canon lore well enough to play properly.

So quick reminder: We need at least six authors to make this work, preferably seven. Writing isn't going to start up until we have enough people.

Unfortunately I'm not much of an author otherwise I would have A: Taken House Stormwing or B: Jumped on House Everfree before GMBlackjack posted anything.

My previous suggestion of asking the LSB author group still stands. You might nab a few, who knows?

-GM, master of knows.
