For ever since Chapter 4 was released, I started making character profiles, starting with Greyhoof. At first it was without consent of Baddy, but she liked it so much she gave me the go-ahead. And that's how I began making them.

And with this group, it gave me an idea. I figure that I could post up the characters here, with you guys commenting on them if you wish, for extra feedback and so on and so forth.

What do you say to that?

Hey, go for it man!

Sounds good to me.

Alright, the first one up is Greyhoof. This is unmodified as I didn't prepare him beforehand when I first started.

The following is the opinion of just one reader, not the collective group of fans. It is up to every individual of the group to either agree or disagree with the following and they will be respected for it. This is now done with the author’s permission.

Mister Greyhoof

Mr Greyhoof is in short a decent result of the caste system. He is old and through his years, he has come to terms with his position because he understands how it functions. He is fully devoted to whoever he is assigned to, and as his current master is Flash, he has no objections and treats Flash like an old uncle would treat his favorite nephew.

Role: Greyhoof is completely aware of his position as a supporting character to someone. He doesn't aspire much in his life other than to serve Flash whom judging from an outsider's point of view, would be the first to treat Greyhoof like a friend and not as a slave. In response, Greyhoof does make small suggestions to Flash in order for him to find real happiness in his life. He doesn't argue with Flash, not because of fear but because of respect for him and he wants Flash to acknowledge these tidbits of observations he makes of his master. Greyhoof speaks softly and leaves it to Flash for the decisions whereas he makes a suggestion to make Flash happier or take some steps for his personal life.

Drawback: One flaw that Greyhoof does have is that while he wants his master to be happy with his personal life, he does push a little too much. He does have the excuse of not knowing the complete and has to rely on Flash to inform him but when he encourages Flash to take a step, things go into the unknown. Greyhoof loves Flash like his own nephew but he is not the perfect servant.

Relations: Greyhoof is firmly loyal to Flash because of Flash's treatment. He shows all others above his own position with decent respect as well as he deems is necessary and he always speaks with respect. Greyhoof would likely keep his opinion of someone he dislikes to himself unless Flash would ask him of it.

View on the caste system: Greyhoof knows his place and he knows he cannot change it, but he does hold knowledge of where it ends and where certain things doesn't seem to fit in with it. Greyhoof would like it to change, possibly, but he knows the reasons behind its existence and he won't argue against it unless asked for by somepony higher up.

OC Rating: :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

For the record, the OC Rating is based on their function in the story and how well they fulfill it.

He is fully devoted to whoever he is assigned to,

Arguable. He is obviously loyal to Flash but we don't know if he would be the same for somepony else.

By the way, what's the highest OC rating possible?

Right, next up is Cpt. Ironhoof. Yes, I actually made a profile for him.

Captain Ironhoof

Cpt. Ironhoof is head of the Royal Guard in Canterlot. He is a unicorn and therefore a noble of the caste system. He is vying for Princess Twilight’s hoof in marriage and doesn’t like to share. He is a very naughty pony.

Role: Ironhoof is the closest you can get to having a physical antagonist in that he opposes Flash Sentry in affections for Twilight, though he may not have as potent feelings for Twilight as Flash does. Ironhoof does not tolerate somepony getting any “bright ideas” around him and sees himself as the big hero for the little princess and for all of Equestria’s “proper order.”

Ambition: Ironhoof wants power. This is the ambition of virtually any corrupt noble but Ironhoof aspires to marry Twilight simply because she is a princess. He describes her as elegant and more beautiful than Cadance, but his feelings are shallow and he is more in favor of having a doll than a pony. In short, he may as well want to have Twilight as a trophy wife to show that he married a Princess and moved up in the world. Because of this ambition, he won’t tolerate anyone else showing favor to her, believing himself the only one who has any legal right to treat her with respect.

Relations: Ironhoof has a valid position as the Captain of the Royal Guard and thus is in charge of the whole castle’s security. This requires him to know nearly everypony in the castle. The Princesses take priority. Then comes his favorite officers, followed by his favorite Guards.

He answers directly to the Princesses. He looks down on everypony else who works for him. He likes Flash because he is a good guardspony but he loathes Flash for the “little stunt” he pulled with Princess Twilight. He treats his own servant with complete disrespect. Any guardspony is good in his book, so long as they know their place, ergo, beneath his hoof as he believes himself to be the most important pony in the system short of the Princesses.

Caste system: In total contrast to Greyhoof, Ironhoof is a terrible product of the caste system. He follows the law and upholds it as Captain, thus he is aware of the code Noblesse oublige. On a personal level, he is an utter bully who looks down on everypony that isn’t him or the Princesses. He exploits the caste system in order to make himself look good and doesn’t care what anyone says about it - if he can get away with it because of the system, then he would certainly do it. True that he does live up to his responsibilities, but only just to a bare minimum. He will enforce it whenever possible with the possible addendum that he is above also any unicorn he talks to.

OC rating: :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

Finally got around to updating this, due to lack of chapter updates recently.

Princess Celestia

Princess Celestia is one of the two absolute monarchs in the dual Principality of Equestria, the other being Princess Luna. She controls the sun and is considered by most a goddess or at the very least, supreme ruler of Equestria. This has some unfortunate implications.

Role: Where Ironhoof is a physical antagonist to Flash Sentry, Celestia can sadly be put forward as an antagonist as well, as she is the main representative and founder of the caste system at the same time. She is the “ultimate obstacle” for a pony who wants to defy the caste system, but she remains passive and maintains the system for reasons unknown. While she is friendly and joyful to anyone who speaks to her with the exception of Discord, she is cold and near unresponsive when it comes to the system as she is trying her best to maintain a form of order and goodness with it and with the odd complaint, it has worked.

Caste System: She founded it. The reason is unknown but Discord has pointed out that she wasn’t always like this. She feels she must uphold the system and squash emotions between ponies who are not of the same class and she feels herself being destroyed every time she has to turn somepony down. Yet she carries on. Celestia is neither hard nor soft when it comes to the system, she is merely passive but she cannot bring it upon herself to abolish it because something she experienced serves only as a reminder why the caste system is in effect.

Relations: Celestia has a good relationship with Twilight and her sister Luna. She tries her best when she is talking to her subjects but fails whenever the system is brought up. She loathes Discord for even being in the same room and refuses to strike a conversation with him, yet tolerates him for a small period of time.

She answers to nopony as she is above most. Technically, however, Twilight and Luna are on the same level as her and they could reel her in if they felt the need to. Sadly, neither feels they can as Celestia is older than both and they go with the belief that she is all more wiser for it.
