Equestria has a long and bloody history, which isn't surprising since Equestria is one of the oldest nations to exist. For around ten thousand years, Equestria has faces its hardships and near ruin on some occasions. During these long thousands of years, there have been several 'Epochs' that make up Equestrian history. Where power would shift hooves and Equestria itself was reformed. This has happened seven times thus far. For the purpose of this document, the seven epochs will be briefly summarized for their major importance and leadership and the time-frame in which they fit.

1st Epoch: The Founding Tribes
Age: 10,000 - 9,864

The Foundation period is defined as the first years of Equestria's history, where the three tribes finally put aside their differences and came together to form the nation of Equestria. This was spurred on by the near extinction of their kind by the Windigoes. The three tribes persevered and drove them back. For a while, there was peace. A very unsteady peace, but this was to be expected from centuries upon centuries of fighting between the three tribes.

However, this peace was then shattered during the Equestrian-Changeling War. While eventually victorious, it cost Equestria too much in supplies and lives that the governing body of Equestria could barely keep it afloat. Including the fact that the tribes had only recently come together, issues with keeping the peace started to tear apart the country until the official government was dissolved.

2nd Epoch: The Reign of the Warlords
Age: 9,864 - 7,011

The second era of Equestria was defined by the small kingdoms littering about the landscape. The area was still known as Equestria and the kingdoms were still 'united' in many ways since the tribes had learned to co-exist. However, they often fought and carved up more territories for themselves, often from other neighboring kingdoms.

This was also the age where the first True Gods showed up, picking sides and thus with the mortal races.

3rd Epoch: Majesty's Rule
Age: 7,011 - 6.653

Characterized by the rule of Queen Majesty, Equestria's last queen. Her reign has become synonymous with tyranny. While ancient texts tell stories of her virtuous and kind self, it would seem that power eventually corrupted her into the warmonger that she became. It took the eventual force of all races to take down her and her army and end her forever.

4th Epoch: Megan's Rule
Age: 6,653 - 6,594

While short, scholars the world over would give Princess Megan the honor of her own Epoch. Her reign was one of construction and rebuilding the old world. Where, for a short moment in time, the races were united as one under the fabled and honored Princess Megan's rule. Sadly, the chaos god Discord would cut this reign short and see that she would disappear from history alongside her siblings.

5th Epoch: Discord's Rule
Age: 6,594 - 5567

For a thousand years, Discord ruled unopposed. He was able to do this by plucking a strand of the 'soul' of Yggdrasil 'the world tree'. Because of the tree's connection with this realm and the others, it gave Discord the ability to further his control over reality and was able to freeze and capture all the other gods of the world. With them out of the way, he was able to rule as he pleased.

That is, until he was eventually disposed by the Celestial sisters who eventually, after nearly three decades of war, came with the Elements of Harmony and turned him to stone. The strand was then returned to Yggdrasil and the other gods freed, then sealing the tree's life force to make sure that such a thing would never come to pass again. Discord's stone body was then hidden away from the rest of the world.

6th Period: The Reign of the Two Sisters
Age: 5567 - 1000

A period of reformation and sorting out the world, the two sister's lived, for the most part, in harmony with one another. Given that Discord displaced large sections of populations across the world and rearranged some of the landmasses, it took a long time to sort everything out. This often led to a number of conflicts, most minor with some larger ones destroying some civilizations.

Eventually, this Epoch came to an end when the sister Luna turned on her sister and became the dreaded Nightmare Moon. The blood Twilight War ended with her banished to the moon and her forces scattered.

7th Period: Celestia's Rule
Age: 1000 - Present

Princess Celestia spent the next few hundred years cleaning up the mess of Nightmare Moon's betrayal while also fighting off a number of enemies that tried to take advantage of Equestria's weakened state. They all failed of course.

Which leads us to when the well known and somewhat feared Princess Sunset was tasked to go to Ponyville.

Well, that's when a new chapter in our history began.
