In my own Vinyl story I've decided to adopt Vinyl's show persona as the one I use. In other words, she's mute, but best we can tell, still pretty hyperactive. I don't mind someone acknowledging her being disabled, or even using it as an element she has to struggle with as I'm sure either being born unable to speak or having your voice suddenly lost isn't easy. However how many have stories where she keeps going and even keeps her personality despite being disabled?

A lot of fan fics decide that a disabled person's "personality" is uber depressed, which is an insulting stereotype, not a personality.
