I'm only counting films that I've seen this year that were also released in theaters this year in one way shape or form. So films like The Wolverine, The Wolf of Wall Street or 12 Years a Slave are missing only because I haven't had a chance to see them yet.

So, here we go, asterisks (*) represents a film I saw in theaters. Everything else I saw on either DVD or Netflix Instant Watch:

1. Gravity*
2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug*
3. Pacific Rim
4. Star Trek Into Darkness*
5. Monsters University
6. Thor: The Dark World*
7. Oblivion
8. Jack the Giant Slayer
9. My Little Pony: Equestria Girls
10. Olympus Has Fallen
11. Iron Man 3*
12. Man of Steel*
13. Elysium
14. RED 2
15. The Great Gatsby
16. Now You See Me

Therefore, according to my list, the worst film I've seen this year, that was released in the year 2013, was by far, The Great Gatsby. Which is a shame, since I loved the book.

What about you guys? What are your favorite movies of the year?

Prisoners and Iron Man 3 rank pretty well for me.

Now You See Me, on the other hand, sucked.

2490550 OH MY GOD I TOTALLY FORGOT THAT

Iron Man 3
Pacific Rim
Star Trek: Into Darkness
Thor: The Dark World
Equestria Girls

Those five I saw this year. The first four...
FUCKIN AWESOME!!!

Equestria Girls... :pinkiesick:

2490577 The main reason I didn't like Equestria Girls was the character designs....

As for Iron Man 3, it made me very angry on subsequent viewing because of it's making fun of Tony's PTSD and also the rape they committed against the Mandarin.

Not to mention really crappy writing.

2490581 I hated Equestria Girls because of that and everything else.

2490715 Yeah, like I said, I was expecting something MUCH worse, and really, the thing that pissed/creeped me out was the character designs.:pinkiesick:

2490741 I went in expecting nothing in particular, and what came as a result turned out to be literally the worst movie I have seen in years.

It's been half a year since I saw it, and I'm still angry about it. Only the special kind of "films" can do that.

2490581 are you a big fan of the comics? because I have never read a comic book, and don't really intend to, and I thought that Iron Man 3 was great.

2490807 wow, like half of those aren't from this year at all

2490819 I'm a causal comic fan, but even with that, I still felt that Iron Man 3 was a horrible piece of crap.:ajbemused:

I mean, damn did it make me angry.

Just from a story telling point.

2490581 My biggest grief for IM3 was the fact that they did not play ONE SINGLE AC/DC song! :flutterrage:

2490870 OH YEAH!

WHERE THE HELL IS MY AC/DC?!

2490763
2490852
both of you seem like you have had traumatic experiences at the movies this year. i've had three. much more of this and i'll have to make a new thread

2490890 Well, it wasn't that bad a year in movies.

I mean we got Gravity right? I think that completely makes up for Iron Man 3

2490897
nothing can make up for the triple whammy of "man of steel","the lone ranger",and "Elysium".
nothing.

2490909 Gravity can.

*majestic music in distance*

2490909 Gravity, 12 Years, Dallas Buyers, Nebraska, Rush

'Nuff said.

2490926
2490944
with regards to the hobbits... i don't want to cause a rift here, but i didn't think that gravity was a masterpiece. it was ok. Very, Very good looking, but for a science nerd like me it kept on doing things that took me out of it, I also wasn't blown away by sandra bullock. so... sorry.

with regards to the master of movies, I'm not really one for watching, well, 'art movies.' I go for big crowd pleasers, because I want to have fun. I do on occasion, but usually i don't. therefore i don't really care about any of those. Also sorry.

2491087 Well that's your opinion....

but remember, rule of drama applies here to. Considering the effort they put into even TRYING to be accurate gains them endless respect in my book.

2491281 awwwwwwwwww, you missed it by that much.
you should have said this

2491338 Well played buddy. Well played

2490518 The Hunger Games Catching Fire. The first film was spectacular and this sequel improved everything. It was so good that given the choice between seeing it again and seeing Disney's Frozen I chose the former.

I would like to also say Man of Steel but I haven't seen it so I can't pass judgement on it.

Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University were good family movies that restored faith in Dreamworks and Disney/Pixar. Sort of a last hurrah for these once proud animation titans.

In terms of animation I would actually say Equestria Girls was impressive. It generally looked and sounded good, the premise wasn't what it could've been though.
