World war 1 was a very musical war, with the soldiers often singing to pass the time and entertain themselves. Upon hearing the opening bars of the song, I instantly felt heartache for the men and boys on both sides far from home. It was enough to actually make me choke up. Any story involving world war 1 soldiers is incomplete unless they sing a time-appropriate song.
The Great War was ultimately pointless and you should celebrate more than just the Entente. The Germans and Austro-Hungarians should be celebrated as well.
