A gem, generally speaking, is a story that one or more persons believes that has not received the attention they believe it should receive. Of course, in order for this to be true, the story must have never held a place in the featured box, new or updated, since either will be more than likely to draw attention to any story up there. The story's plot, description, writing style, or cover image should in no way deter its chances of being listed as a gem.

In order for a story to qualify as a gem there are several criteria that must be met.

1. The story must have never been listed in the featured box, new or updated.

2. The story must have less than 150 'likes'. If a member believes that the story with a number higher than this amount should be added to the group, they can message one of the admins/contributors with their reason(s) as to why.

3. (Optional) The positive reactions (comments) for the story must exceed the negative reactions. Again, if a member believes that the story they want to add should bypass this rule, they can message one of the admins/contributors with their reason(s) as to why.
