....but we do have official wording that 4014 will be returning back to Omaha this year for the first time since August of 2019 as the first outing for 2023! :D

In other words... he will be pulling what is known as.... The Home Run Express. :)

Here's the map for it:

And here's the schedule as followed:

Wednesday June 7th, 2023: Cheyenne, Wyoming to Gering, Nebraska with stops in Albin, Wyoming and La Grange, Wyoming.

Thursday June 8th, 2023; Gering, Nebraska to North Platte, Nebraska with stops in Broadwater, Nebraska and Lemoyne, Nebraska.

Friday June 9th, 2023: Viewing Only in North Platte, Nebraska.

Saturday June 10th, 2023: North Platte, Nebraska to Grand Island, Nebraska with stops in Cozad, Nebraska and Kearney, Nebraska.*

*Looks like the Virtual Railfan webcam is gonna have a field day once more via for those to watch 4014 arrive and depart Kearney. :raritywink:

Sunday June 11th, 2023: Grand Island, Nebraska to Council Bluffs, Iowa with stops in Columbus, Nebraska and Fremont, Nebraska.

Monday June 12th, 2023 and Tuesday June 13th, 2023: No Public Access in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wednesday June 14th, 2023: Council Bluffs, Iowa to Omaha, Nebraska.

Thursday June 15th, 2023 to Monday June 26th, 2023: In Omaha, Nebraska for Union Pacific's Home Plate.

Tuesday June 27th, 2023: Omaha, Nebraska to Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Wednesday June 28th, 2023: No Public Access in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Thursday June 29th, 2023: Council Bluffs, Iowa to Grand Island, Nebraska with stops in Fremont, Nebraska and Columbus, Nebraska.

**Friday June 30th, 2023: Grand Island, Nebraska to North Platte, Nebraska with stops in Overton, Nebraska and Gothenburg, Nebraska.

**Once again... 4014 will go through Kearney, Nebraska... but unlike the eastbound leg earlier in the month, he will just pass on through Kearney without stopping. Of course... there will be those that will be sure to watch on the Virtual Railfan Webcam in Kearney once again, this time with 4014 passing on through Kearney. :ajsmug:

Saturday July 1st, 2023: Viewing Only in North Platte, Nebraska.

Sunday July 2nd, 2023: North Platte, Nebraska to Sidney, Nebraska with stops in Ogallala, Nebraska and Chappell, Nebraska.

Monday July 3rd, 2023: Sidney, Nebraska to Cheyenne, Wyoming with stops in Kimball, Nebraska and Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.

Fingers crossed though... hopefully 4014 can still get the chance to visit the Pacific Northwest this year if conditions continue to improve. :P

Why can’t 4014 come down to the South Eastern states. There’s lots of us here that what to see her in person.

Because Terry... Union Pacific doesn't have any trackage of it's own beyond New Orleans.

New Orleans is still more doable than going all the way up to Cheyenne. At least for me and my family, so hopefully one day she can return back there.

If either one of the eastern railroads would allow the 4014 to travel into new territory that no Big Boy ever traveled to like CSX’s Sand Patch grade where 4014 would surely flex its muscles in pulling a passenger train with diesel helpers.

Or on the way to the location where the excursion is to take place CSX and UP put the Big Boy on a long freight train with 2 diesels helping it up the Allegheny Mountains with a loaded merchandise train with no hazardous chemicals in the tank cars bound for Baltimore or Cumberland. The B&O did have huge articulateds in the form of the EM-1 Yellowstones which were a bit smaller than a Big Boy, but just as strong. After all the 25 Big Boys were originally designed for fast freight service and were capable of 80 mph making them pretty fast and were powerhouses for their time. So slugging it out on a steep grade like on Sand Patch is pretty natural and would allow 4014 to cross paths with C&O 1309.

It would make the 1st Big Boy to tour the eastern us.
