Darkevony

I've always said one thing about who I am as a person. "Eternally in pursuit of the goodness in the heart." It's what called me to the show. It's why I'm here now. And it's what I love to write about.

Dark's Manga & Anime Corner #1 · 6:18pm Oct 16th, 2022

I have a strong desire to talk about all the stories I really love, and a lot of those stories come in the way of manga/light novels/anime. Especially manga, as I love the unique story-telling that goes into the expressive illustrations. And although black and white, they show just how truly transformative the medium can be. So I’m creating this series of blogs just to showcase some of them and the more touching parts of a story to me.

Apart from manga, in future Corners, I’ll probably add some anime gifs or light novel quotes, but for today and for this first one, it’s all about manga!

Fair warning though, as I’m posting of the more impactful moments of these mangas, I’d sincerely recommend you check them out first if you don’t like spoilers.

But this is for discussion and sharing, so let’s begin! Starting off with...

Slime Life

To give you a bit of context, Slime Life is a slice of life manga that follows a small little slime boy’s new job as an employee at a Witch’s Magic shop. He gets up to all sorts of things, but here in this next set of panels it tells the story of one of the longer arcs in the story where our boy finds a magical Golem that he tries to train to be strong and helpful like he himself is. (Well, mostly). The golem ends up sacrificing its functionality (essentially its life) to save the life of a child outside of them. And that along with this set of panels is his one and only true show of sentience he had ever shown throughout.

It seems Slime’s teachings did not go unheard by the golem after all. A truly touching moment.

Boukensha ni Naritai to Miyako

Context is pretty self explanatory for this one. It’s mostly about a father worried that his adventurer daughter might be in danger due to her carelessness and lack of proper skill. I’ve said before I really love parental stories. And I MEAN it.

Koe no Katachi - A Silent Voice

Now this one is one you might’ve already seen in the anime movie! The movie made waves after all, and for good reason. I’d read the manga long before I ever saw the movie, and man did this part hit me hard. So much so, I even went out and learned ASL. What’s shown in this manga/anime is actually different however since it’s JSL, but I figured I’d never make it to Japan to begin with so I studied ASL instead.

Context for this is... Well, a lot of things. I think it’s important you read/watch the movie if you really want to know more. It’s truly a special scene.

“It’s my fault.”

“I thought...”

“That I ruined your friendships again.”

“And all this...”

“Made me so sad.”

Conclusion

You can really tell where my own writing takes inspiration from. Sometimes word for word too. Hundreds and hundreds of stories in my head all giving me the will and want to write my own. Anyway. Thinking of doing more things like this for my blogs in the future so I can have an excuse to talk about stuff I like.

I was also thinking of starting a Review corner once I have more time in my hand to review Fics on this site. But I’m a wallflower so you’d probably see it in the form of “CinemaWins - Everything GREAT about:” type of reviews where I won’t review fics I don’t like and just speak positively on the ones I do touch upon.

I’m just here to make the world a more positive place, however much I can.
