Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing a 1993 family/comedy film entitled: Mrs. Doubtfire! This is one of my favorite comedy movies of all time and my utmost favorite Robin Williams movie as well. I always loved this movie when I was a kid, and it really stood out to me due to Williams’ wholesome performance and how wonderful he played the titular character. Not to mention that both the premise and the story were very interesting to me. I write this review in memory of the late Robin Williams in light of his 8th anniversary of his unfortunate death on this same exact date of 2014.

This movie is about Daniel Hillard who has a strong love for his children but could not maintain custody of them as his wife filed for divorce over his unreliability. Within three months, he has to seek for a steady occupation and residence if he is to share custody of his children. Later on, a grand opportunity opens before him to spend time with his beloved kids; he disguises himself as an elderly British nanny. Thus, he paves the way for the ultimate learning experience.

I like how this movie touched themes of family and divorce and how the latter can cause a negative affect on the former, especially on the children. Coming from someone whose parents were divorced a long time ago, it really hit close to home. I really appreciate the premise the filmmakers were going for, and it always resonated with me ever since I first watched it as a kid. But the most important lesson I got from it was that no matter what the parents may say to each other (especially if they have an argument), both parents are to unconditionally love their children. Just because the father and mother may disagree on whatever matter it may be or that they always fight…doesn’t mean they can stop loving their child/children.

Williams did an excellent job in both portraying the Daniel character and as the character’s alter ego, Mrs. Doubtfire. His voice for her was spot-on which spoke volumes of his amazing voice talents! From my point of view, almost every role he played in has something to do with family, love, or friendship which gives me the impression that Robin always had a strong connection with these themes throughout his life. This is one of the reasons why he was one of my favorite actors ever.

The acting was flawless, the score was decent, and the story was well-written. Plus, the comedy was just so hilarious! Every time he was Doubtfire, he would steal every scene with his comedic lines of dialogue. I could never get enough of them!

Overall, this is an underrated classic comedy film which deserves more attention and praise than ever before. I rate this a solid 10/10!

Peace!

I might of seen this movie once or twice on either Cartoon Network or Discovery Family.... ^^'

Out of curiosity…

What flaws does the movie have that’d ultimately have it only be rated 10 out of 10?
