Another reason why I don't like MLP: ANG · 10:24pm Apr 27th, 2022

It uses the mystery box method that, thanks to J.J Abrams, has garnered an infamous reputation as this video explains:

Though, to be fair to MLP: ANG, the later seasons of MLP occasionally used the mystery box method as well. For instance, we know Cozy Glow is an evil little shit but we don't know why she's that evil despite being a little filly (assuming you don't buy the theory that she has a rare growth disorder). Sure, it gives us fanfic writers something to work with but, as the video explained, a character like that can prove to be unusual. And not in the good way.

Speaking of which, doesn't it seem a bit odd that Starlight is as overpowered as she is even though nothing in her backstory indicates she had the same education Twilight and Sunburst did? Cutie Mark manipulation, fair enough. One can tell by the design of her own Cutie Mark that she has a talent for that kind of magic. But fixing up a time-travel spell or easily using a powerful combination of mind-control spells or going toe-to-toe with the literal Element of Magic?! That breaks one's suspension of disbelief. If Starlight's mother was a gifted unicorn in her own right or even a full-blown alicorn, I would be willing to forgive Starlight's magical prowess. But we never saw Starlight's mother, so we don't know what she's like and therefore we have to fill in the gaps the writers left.

Anyway, enough rambling about G4's own shortcomings, let's talk about the mystery boxes in MLP: ANG that will either be left unopened or will be opened but will leave us very disappointed. What happened to Twilight? What caused the magic to be encased in those crystals? Why was everypony racist? All good questions that will either be answered in the G5 show and leave us disappointed or never answered at all even if the show lasted more than one season.

Though it wouldn't hurt to admit that, if the G5 show went into darker places than even G4 didn't touch, I'd be pretty content. Obviously, I'm not expecting something grimdark but I'd be pretty bummed out if Twilight didn't get overthrown then exiled* followed by a civil war that left the old Equestria in ruins.

*I'm also willing to accept her being executed but that would be a waste of potential storylines and I don't think Hasbro would go that far.

G5 brings up way too many questions, and it has a big order to fill when it comes to answers about G5. Most likely, they'll just give vague answers other people will use headcanons or guesswork to fill in the blank. I've said it before, but G5 should have been its own thing.
