Progress Log: March, 25th 1:27 PM · 6:39pm Mar 25th, 2022

What a milestone. My first log for this project.

General Greeting

I created a DeviantArt so the FIMFiction would have a URL. So far, Beelzebub has gotten plenty of love from the wyvern and dragon community. That's a good start, means I did good on the design for his character. It has me worried about copyright and others stealing his design so I may look into registering it with the legal system (The U.S Copyright Office.) In fact, I may do that with all my designs because people reposting is inevitable. Not worried about reposts, just art theft, ya know? Even though the design was mine when I made it, never hurts to be extra careful.

Designs to Copyright

  • Beelzebub
  • Asmodeus
  • Belphegor
  • Leviathan
  • Lucifer
  • Mammon

To do list: March 25th through the 28th

Concept Art: Fanzeem should have the concept expression art done in two days. SyrupyyyArt (Twitter) has shown interest in this project but has not confirmed a time to work with me until the end of March. They are open to designing expressions as well which will help me design styles. The concept art was inspired by Imalou who I've been eyeing for a mini-project that may or may not be possible. Depending on their contracts, time, and interest, I may provoke a response that could have my idea freelanced. I've never pitched to someone this well known before, so my budget for it and the experience may be a little too high. All I know is that a good starting pay is $150 an hour and I'm open to about thirty-three hours of total work. The concept art I'd get would probably cover two creatures (or ponies) total. Which is fine with me.

Asmodeus: The theme for Asmodeus, made by soomastudio, will be about a month. It is a large and chilling project. To construct a theme for a demon takes immense creativity. It's not about aggressive drums, guitars, or even battle music. Similar to its counterpart, the song is supposed to evoke a feeling of anxiety as if something is chasing the listener. I'm even adding the sounds of heartbeats that increase the more the song goes on. I'm studying the pacing of hearts during an adrenaline surge to get a better idea. Perhaps I'll play with chanting as well. I doubt I'll get it on the first try. The second composer, Therah, is rather busy and nervous when it comes to the instruments needed for Asmodeus. I applaud that they are willing to try and they are currently working on a demo that may or may not be out this week.

Sound Effects: Cosmos's sound effects are the most fun to work with. Although Asmodeus is the easiest to make original, Cosmos's are the hardest because they are Easter eggs. The Minecraft Enderman teleport sound? Yep, she makes those sounds when she poofs. Sans's Gaster Blaster? Yep, she makes those sounds too. Fairytail? Death Note? The anime "WOW" sound effect. Yep. Cosmos understands that reference (just like Captain America haha.) Since the story revolves a lot around Pinkie there will be a clash of comedic effects. Pinkie is more goofy, random, and slapstick-centered whereas Cosmos takes delight in easter egg humor and wit-wordplay, using idioms and satire. I want each character to have their own sense of humor, everyone laughs, even the villains. Chrysalis loves dry and aggressive humor, Mena loves her sarcasm, Cozy Glow likes her dark humor, so on and so forth. If Cosmos enjoys that type of humor it would be present in her dialogue, her behavior, and even her thinking. She is the same species as Discord, but she won't be a ripoff. Discord occasionally does references, but she lives and breathes them. Even having references to fanfics here on this site in her room. Looking at you Sweetie Giraffe.

Research: Over the weekend I will be studying the myths in herbology. Alchemy uses ingredients to make potions, spells, and even wards against evil. It's the science of the magical world. Although Mena is a black magic user, she isn't very powerful unlike Cosmos or Chrysalis who have honed their skills during thousands of years. It doesn't feel right to make her a powerhouse. Actually, it feels wrong. (Still a WIP) During her past years in Equestria's days of yore she was an avid reader, similar to her uncle, Avery the Bulwark. Like her, he was shut indoors for most of his youth, passing the time through reading or daydreaming. She became fascinated with the idea of alchemy, even memorizing the effects of previously researched ingredients. She favors illusion because it is a spell that most novices can master. With alchemy, however, those illusions become much more dangerous as potions have a physical effect whereas illusions do not. Anyone remember love poison?

There are several examples of mythology around plants. Wolfsbane for one, foxbane two, even mistletoe. Alchemy actually had a big start through the Philosopher stone and Lady's Mantle. Am I putting that in the story? Why yes, yes I am. Equestria is filled to the brim with artifacts and even references toward Greek Mythology. Mena just happened to live during a time where these things were created.
