Today I was the proud recipient of a truly remarkable cultural artifact. What in the world of pony merchandise could possibly warrant special attention in 2022? I'm speaking of the Freeny Dissectibles figurine of Nightmare Moon, which is dual-crafted, if you will, to represent both the majestic outer form of Princess Luna's self-corrupted, almost certainly cannibalistic carnivorous alter-ego, and her internal bodily structure.
Let us pause a moment, dear brethren. Let us ponder the questions that occur to any who have had more than a passing interest in such matters. How did this come to be? What does it signify? On the one side we note immediately the strict attention to detail: the CORRECT rendering of Her Highness's dental anatomy. Clearly, it was a sober mind that chose to capture this particular attitude. Triumph. Glee. Accomplishment. The revelation of a nature hidden for untold months - years - eons, perhaps, focused most poignantly in a set of perfect calcites designed for ... well ... not eating hay and apples.
But it is the other side that leads us to deeper matters. Here we have what might be considered a canon rendering of Luna's organs (and organelles, I would say, but it appears we're focusing on the big picture), encaged in a mighty barrel of ribs. Beyond the mere biology that is presented—the lungs, the mystical crescent heart, and even the oft-maligned intestines on which we all depend for life—this is a reminder that we are multitudes; cells interlinked within cells interlinked, I think the shibboleth goes. Each one of the billions operating in perfect harmony with its kin, and in this case, driven by a mind filled with the mirth of victory.
To meet this noble creature, this great living machine, would be to at once be galvanized by her mission to draw all to the beauty of the night, and humbled in that, with her, one shares the basic cogs and gears.
May the feast never end.
