Salutations to whoever is following the story, 'Preston Marlowe Goes to Equestria'. I don't update as much on this website as I've used to, but here's a question for those who are following my Bad Company 2 crossover story. As the obvious title states, should Nikolai never exist in the first place?
Now you're probably wondering, why are you even asking such a question? The truth is, I'm actually considering partially rewriting the story in which it would only focus on Preston Marlowe. The way I see it, putting Nikolai into the story would make writing this fic harder than it needs to be. Having Preston Marlowe from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 wind up in a world like Equestria is already off-character enough, and having a character like Nikolai in the story would just make Marlowe's character very off-putting, if you know what I mean. Besides, Nikolai is just an OC, an experiment I've decided to write in the story and see where it goes from there.
I still haven't decided on it yet, but as much as it pains me to think about it, I might just get rid of Nikolai and rewrite the story with Marlowe as the main focus. If I have Nikolai remain in the story, I'm not going to make any further progress in writing. As my college professor once said, if you're having trouble with writing out the story, kill your darlings. Whether or not I decide to have Nikolai erased from the story, we'll see where it goes from here.
It's probably not my place to ask, but if anyone still cares about this story, what are your thoughts?
Nikolai I found to be interesting but it felt like filler to the overall story. In the end though your the author and must decide what is right for the story. But in the future I would RECOMMEND that you keep it focused on Marlow and rotate over to bad company whenever they get important intel or information that pertains to Marlows whereabouts.
To answer your current question use Nikolai as a filler chapter so that you don’t have to grind out just Preston marlow I do this with my story whenever I get stuck I stick to events that are either happing semitainously or in the past as to not get burned out or look for inspiration there.
