Has anyone ever attended a live Esports event? · 10:01pm Dec 4th, 2021
I'm thinking about attending HCS Kansas City in April, and I'm wondering about what I can expect as a spectator.
Like, obviously the main stage for the biggest stuff but I'm wondering what else there is to do at these type of events.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
It's really going to depend on the event and organization running it. I get hired by Envy/Optic/Fuel to help with live events pretty regularly. Our part in the event is usually to set up photo ops for attendees by providing props and/or cosplayers for them to take pictures and interact with. Some events will have something of a fair set up including games or events, food vendors, and a dealer hall of sorts. Others I've worked have had a non main stage gaming area or the like available. Honestly my experiences have been really varied with no two events being completely the same. I was at the Red Bull League of Legends worlds watch party and they basically had a big breakfast party with pancake artists and everything before the match started.
Traveling somewhere to watch people play video games? I can't say I've ever seen the appeal of doing something like that.
