Routine life is hard to show without isekai (more ToM: Mending Shards afterthought) · 6:56am Nov 22nd, 2021

I just understood why it was so hard to make a clear picture of what even goes on in the book from the start.

I need a few preliminary steps, so pardon me for being too wordy.

Let's look at real life and daily routines. Entering the lift (or is it elevator in your country?) you quickly check if it arrived. Crossing roads is 'look around, then do it once again'. Buying food, some likely will check expiration dates.

Minor dangers of everyday life that we are accustomed to and dance around without even noticing. They don't make a story, unless you are some follower of Kafka, and you don't even think about it. There is next to no need to accentuate them in the story about yourself - it's not in your focus.

Now, my distant word of Triangle. It is distant, and these dangers they are routinely avoiding are different too. One most simple example: if currently, according to calendar, one of two Moons that are 'not yours' is going through full glory, you will likely consider if you want to go out at all, you will make some mental preparations, and you definitely do not want to go beyond the protective Net that is stretched over the city. It may be compared to heavy rain/snow, in a sense.

Otherwise, you might be lost and confused in the shine.

Note that it is not forbidden, or extremely dangerous, and that each citizen simply knows that, as a given, and likely knows how to shield themself from these unpleasant afflictions.

But, stated out as I just did, it is horrific. And I don't want to write horror. It is a normal life. Everything around them is normal, and I... well, how do I even write about these things, then? This example is not even a single one, the world is full of unusual (for us) and normalized (for them) circumstances.

Not directly, that's for sure. Hinting and mentioning.

It could work. It sometimes works. It can't be digestive for all the readers.

Isekai would be an easy approach for this issue. I'm not taking it easy.

Do it! Make isekai of your world, but with a protagonist not from our human world. Maybe Equestrian pony? That could be quite interesting. And not easy, if you don't like easy that much =)
