Equine Inquiries: Should I Try To "Standardize" My Stories' Cover Art? · 10:46pm Oct 23rd, 2021

So I'm thinking of sort of "standardizing" my stories' cover art. Try to establish loose design rules that connect my stories to one another. Although I'm not sure how much work I should put into that. I've seen other writers put their title in the thumbnail or have a list of content warnings. But for my uses, I don't know if I should have all that information in a thumbnail or simply have a uniform size for my cover art.

Up until now I've usually opted for some simple background art or a piece of art that fits a major scene in the story and simply use that (provided the artist doesn't mind it.) I don't really have a set size for the coverart, but I feel I should. This is most apparent on other sites like Furaffinity, where drawn art and written stories are seen side by side, with very subtle indications that they're one or the other. You just have a small 100x100px thumbnail to go off of. I would like to make an effort towards something that would make my stories more uniform in appearance, but also have a way to display the story's intended audience.

Thoughts?

uniformity in art style is always good, and financially beneficial to the artist, but I would like to point out that the readers wouldn't necessarily care about that detail, sense they are there for the ready. But on the other hand it can help settle the tone you are going for overall, in the end it's mostly for the writer's desires whims if he want to invest in those or not.

I personally don't care too much. I read your stories because they're great, not because the cover art looks good. But that's just me.
