My Episode Review on The Three Stooges: Three Little Pigskins · 4:59pm Jul 5th, 2021

Yo, what's up, Kemosabes?

This is your friendly film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

Today, for my 57th episode analysis, I'm gonna give you guys my take of the Three Stooges's "Three Little Pigskins".

Here's the rundown of it:

The Three Stooges are a group of beggars who are desperate for food and money. In spite of being recruited by a college to promote a football game, they feel as though they aren't getting anywhere in terms of making a living.

However, after the trio meet the owner of a football team named Joe Stacks, his two henchman, and their girlfriends, the Stooges are mistaken for three football players that Joe and company need for the team they're betting on.

The only problem is...the Stooges have no idea how to play football!

Speaking honestly here, "Three Little Pigskins" was what I had in mind to review next based on it being the second and final Stooges short to be directed by Raymond McCarey. That, and I constantly remembered several in this short that made analyzing it all-the-more tantalizing.

So, what do I think of "Three Little Pigskins" after so long?

Well, like many other shorts in the Three Stooges filmography, I found "Three Little Pigskins" to be delightful beyond compare.

For instance, the direction by Raymond McCarey, and the story by Felix Adler and Griffin Jay, were excellently well-worked.

As I watched this short, I did note that the humorous aspect wasn't looney or wild like McCarey's previous work directing "Men in Black". But yet, I found that to be perfectly okay. The overall comedy still had a bite that made "Three Little Pigskins" hysterical to watch, and there was an energy that managed to help the gags be fun. The jokes revolving around the Stooges during the football game were definitely the best ones, and the whole scene was interesting enough for audiences to want to see if the Stooges would actually win the game.

The acting and characters were wonderful as well.

As always, the Stooges themselves were able to carry the short with stride, and they made any moment given to them as funny as possible. Their comedic-timings were also as on-point as ever, especially to where I can't recall a single moment where they didn't make me laugh. Likewise, Walter Long was awesome in the role of Joe Stacks, and his character had many of the best lines.

Also, an interesting fact about this short is that stars famous actress and comedienne Lucille Ball as the girlfriend of one of Joe's henchman.

In conclusion, "Three Little Pigskins" is another one of the Three Stooges's finest of works. And in spite of only directing two members of the trio's filmography, McCarey definitely knew how to do a Stooges short right.

So, I rate "Three Little Pigskins" five out of five stars.
