My Fimfic Anniversary, 7th Edition & Ask Me Anything · 4:37am Jul 3rd, 2021

Posting this kinda late this year, for which I'm blaming my evening work hours :twilightsheepish:, but it's still technically on the correct day (just barely within half-an-hour) according to my own timezone, so woo! (Ignore the date in my bio, it's off by a bit, probably due to last year's server changes or something, I'm not really sure how it got altered... :applejackunsure:)

Anyway, yada, yada, yada, & without further ado, please feel free to Ask Me *Anything!

*Well, almost anything, since I would prefer to keep things SFW.

So, what are your top ten favorite games (computer or console), and least favorite five?

Do you prefer playing games on a computer, or which console is your favorite?

And why isn't the Zelda series the Link series, since you play as Link, not Zelda? :unsuresweetie:

...I hope you realize you're asking a somewhat indecisive individual to choose favorites. :raritydespair: Ah well, I suppose I had it coming.

Hmm... Let's start with the next couple questions, then get back to those lists.*

Do you prefer playing games on a computer, or which console is your favorite?

I am primarily a console player, mostly since I actually do not currently own a computer/laptop of my own. I've pretty much always been fond of Nintendo hardware, the Switch is the only "current gen" console I have, and I do very much enjoy its hybrid nature and various exclusives as well as some ports (but I'm still one of the many who want to eventually see some form of N64/GameCube Virtual Console), so that'll probably default to being my answer for the time being, though it may or may not be worth noting that I am saving up for a PlayStation 5 right now...

And why isn't the Zelda series the Link series, since you play as Link, not Zelda? :unsuresweetie:

Uh, I have no good answer for this, so I'll just go for a weak cop-out answer and say it's because you can change Link's name to something else entirely in most of the games, therefore the princess that usually needs to be saved gets the title credit. :derpytongue2:

*Alright, we're back to the lists. Let's start with least favorites, and I don't think I even have 5 least favorites, since I can really only think of a handful I've played that felt underwhelming.

1. Rygar: The Legendary Adventure (PS2) – I just basically couldn't get past the awkward fixed camera angles. I kinda liked the somewhat unique idea behind the main weapon, but the functionality of the gameplay just did not mesh very well with me.

2. Yu Yu Hakusho: Spirit Detective (GBA) – I enjoyed it well enough for one playthrough, moreso than Rygar above, but it's still easily one of the least polished and shallowest games I have ever personally played.

3. NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (PS2) – I simply wasn't familiar at all with any of the characters the first time I played this (I think I picked it up from either a yard sale or a swap meet), and there was not any in-game tutorial to help me figure anything whatsoever out (I think I looked some things up on GameFaqs, but I still very much wish there was some in-game assistance). If I were to give it another chance today it might no longer be in this section, but alas, I resold it not much longer after I tried playing it...

Huh. Yeah, I can't really think of many others I'd put in this least favorite section. Maybe I'm just far too easily pleased. Either that or I've blocked something from memory, but it's most likely the former. :twilightblush:

Okay, now for the much more difficult top 10 favorites list, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm liable to just put the first 10 games that come to mind that I really enjoyed instead of an actual top 10 favorites of all time, and in some cases I might cheat and put multiple games from the same franchise...

1. Dark Cloud 2 (a.k.a. Dark Chronicle outside of North America)
2. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4. Paladins: Champions of the Realm (Note: It's actually free-to-play if you ever want to try it for yourself. It's kind-of-sort-of comparable to Overwatch, in that it's a team based hero shooter, and some characters have obvious similarities between the two games, but it has plenty of differences to make it practically entirely different.)
5. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Note: Only ever played the Switch version, no access to mods)
6. Pokémon Crystal (Note: Sheer unfiltered nostalgia for being up here, it's the first mainline game I played in the Pokémon franchise.)
7. Mass Effect 1 & 2 (Note: Only ever played these at a high school friend's house, still haven't played 3, the Legendary Edition is a very large part of the reason I'm saving up for a new console, decided on PS5 for a couple other exclusive franchises)
8. SoulCalibur III (Note: Haven't really had a chance to play V or VI yet, and only played VI for a brief time at the aforementioned high school friend's house. II was also pretty fun with being able to fight as Link in the GameCube version, but III's Chronicles of the Sword mode was just too much fun, even with it's glaring and agonizing flaw of sometimes erasing the memory card data for that mode.)
9. Borderlands 1 & 2 (Note: I weirdly enjoy playing as Brick in the first, it's just fun to punch things with his Action Skill, but enjoy the enemies & location variety a lot more in 2. Haven't played The Pre-Sequel (I actually have it, just haven't played it yet) or 3 (don't have it, another high-priority game I'm saving up to get with PS5)
10. Golden Sun & Golden Sun: The Lost Age (Note: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was aslo fun, but it's greatly lessened by the fact that it's ending still remains unresolved... :fluttershyouch:)

Bonus Honorable Mentions, to make up for not having enough least favorites:

HM1. Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition (Note: Still perhaps one my favorite games in all of the racing genre to this day)

HM2. Final Fantasy X (I prefer this kind of turn based compared to some of the other FFs, I just personally can't really enjoy the Active Time Battle [ATB] system for some inexplicable reason... :unsuresweetie: I think I'd simply be far less frustrated if the "wait" option in the settings actually changed it to full-on turn based, instead of only stopping things in deep sub-menus)

...I could probably definitely keep going with other close honorable mentions, but I'm forcing myself to stop here.
