Hello my lovely readers! It’s that time again. Time for another update to Star Trek: Phoenix! Today we premiere episode 3.
This episode features a huge jump forwards in time, and is more of an anthology of little moments than one long continuous part. This is on purpose, to get us where we really need to be for the meat of the story. Back in the draft stage, this was actually considered part three of the prologue to the story, before we shifted to the episode format we’re going with now. After all, as much fun as it would be to spend with Sunset and Twilight as kids… they really need to be adults.
Most of what I wanted to say about this episode, I said in the author’s notes at the end. If you’re not reading those, please do so. I do have quite a lot to say, and I do try to anticipate answers to questions that are likely to be asked.
I also want to reiterate two things from the author’s note. First, no, time is not passing differently in Equestria than it is for Earth. The only reason there was any time dilation factor at all was to allow for Sunset and Twilight to be of similar age. Last thing I wanted was Sunset being Twilight’s mom. That’s been done.
Second, again, the fact that Sunset is being posted to the Enterprise does not mean the story will become “And Sunset was there too” retreads of episodes from the series. I have no interest in doing that, and find it lazy at best. There is precisely one instance of this in the entire story, and the only reason it is done is because it sets up several crucial aspects of the story to follow. You will understand.
As for progress on the story, I’m nearly finished with Season 1 as a whole, which will allow for me to move on to Season 2. Season 2 will be a bit more episodic, as compared to Season 1 which tends to follow something more of a continuous chain. This is to allow for better exploration of the many characters that have been created for this story, as well as to give Sunset and Twilight---not to mention you the readers---some room to breathe.
There may be one or two potential hiccups when it comes to publishing on April 26th and May 3rd, due to some issues in my personal life, involving home renovations, etc that will lead to me having a bit more limited internet access. I’ll do my best to keep the publishing at the right time, but it’s possible they might either publish early or late, depending.
In one other bit of news, there’s been a small post-completion update to Danganronpa: In Harmony’s Wake. It’s nothing with the writing, so don’t worry. Rather, the lovely stummm happened to provide some fan-art regarding one particular part of the climax of the story, and I finally got around to adding it into the chapter! Chapter 6: Part 5 for those curious, and it’s down near the end. Thank you once again, stummm, for creating lovely art!
