Reading FimFiction Stories Aloud · 12:13am Mar 21st, 2021

I recently learned about the Read Aloud functions in Microsoft's Edge browser. I tried it out on FimFiction HTML story downloads and was pleasantly surprised with the results. You can adjust the voice and reading speed to optimize your experience. The steps are:

  1. Go to the main page of a story.
  2. Download the story in html format.
  3. Open the html file in Microsoft Edge.
  4. Press CTRL + SHIFT + U to begin Read Aloud.
  5. Choose Voice Options to adjust the reading speed or voice.

This could be a way to enjoy some MLP fanfic while you get other things done.

You can also do this on Chrome by using a browser extension called Read Aloud.

I have also used text to speech software to read my draft stories. Sometimes I catch errors when I hear the stories that I missed while reading them.

Have you ever used text to speech software? What has worked well for you?

Over 10 years ago, I bought a kindle 3 just so I could use it to read stories to me. Now, Edge does it out of the box. It's amazing how technology keeps marching forward. Also, FYI, Firefox can do real aloud, too. You just have to toggle on Reader View (F9) or click the page button in the address bar for compatible pages. In Reader view, there will be a small control window with a play button and a slider for speed. Have fun.

Thanks for the heads up about Firefox. Edge also supports the F9 key to launch Reader View and includes a Read Aloud control there was well.
