Merry Christmas · 9:46am Dec 26th, 2020
First of all, hello all you people. I hope the holiday season has been treating you all well. I don't need to tell you how hard this time is, but what I can tell you is how I appreciate how we are all people who band together for a passion that helps keep us all company when the comfort of our families and classmates / coworkers are unable to reach us. I cannot tell you all the joy I get from writing these stories and being a part of a great fandom; it draws the creative desires out of me. So from the bottom of my heart, I hope you all are feeling loved.
Secondly, thank you all for the warm reception of my latest story. It felt good to get something down, as I want to be able to consistently produce high quality horsewords. Although it took much longer than I intended to flesh out the idea and get the edits down, I'm happy with the product. I can see some areas where I would elaborate settings or take more time if I were writing a longer story, but the short story does not have time for such things. Quite honestly, I'm surprised the word count went as high as it did, and I see some areas now where I could cull out some unimportant pieces of scenes that are expository. All in all, I feel confident that it is representative of the standard I want to hold myself to in the future.
Finals, holidays, and a certain video game company have kept my attention steadily since posting that story in November, but that doesn't mean I haven't been writing. I've been working on some short prompts in order to keep myself reading different styles, honing my eye for critiquing, as well as getting feedback on my writing. Thanks to these people (you know who you are), I've been engaging the craft in new ways and improving. I want to write beautiful stories, and that comes with many kinds of practice, especially that which I won't post.
So, what is my future for writing looking like? This break from everything has been much needed, but I am getting that urge to post a story here once again. I have some ideas for larger stories on the horizon, one of which I have been throwing the kitchen sink at in terms of planning the different pieces of history and magic. That is going to be my main priority, but since I want to write a lot of that story in advanced before posting, chances are that won't be seen for a good two months. That won't satisfy my itch to post again before the break is up. I do have some horsewords I have written for those prompts I've been working on, but those aren't quite to the standard I want before posting on this site, as well as being too short to tell full stories. So, I'm thinking of revamping a story idea to work as a one-shot, which will give me room to work on the larger story as well as post something meaningful here. Everyone wins! I'm not holding myself to a particular deadline, but mid-January is my goal for another publish.
Alright, it's getting hard to type without typos. It's 5am. I love Christmas and I really appreciate you all. Catch you on the Flipside.
